For the most part (though it opens with their first chartbuster, Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe," followed by "You Showed Me," written by Roger McGuinn and Gene Clark of The Byrds), this set eschews hits in favor of a thematic collection. The aforementioned songs, plus several others, are culled from PRESENT THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS, the first album which showed the Turtles making both hit-potential recordings and broader album statements.
A couple of other songs, "How You Loved Me" and "Dance This Dance With Me," are from their final studio album, the superb TURTLE SOUP, which was produced by none other than Ray Davies of The Kinks. This is a fine collection that nicely mixes the well known with the obscure, for a broader picture of a great little band.
