Movie Description Though not as long as the Whitbread Round the World Race, the Round Britain & Ireland yachting competition is remarkable for a challenging course that encompasses some of the most difficult sailing conditions in the world. Covering 1800 nautical miles over a two-week period, the race circumnavigates Great Britain and Ireland in a clockwise direction from its starting point in southern England, exposing competitors to the rocky shores of western Ireland, the roiling waters of the North Atlantic, the frigid temperatures of the North Sea, and the busy shipping lanes of the English Channel. This documentary recounts the particular difficulties of the 1998 race, in which only seven of the 41 boats were able to finish due to extreme weather, winds, and tides.
