Storm of the Century (DVD, 1999, Complete Miniseries)

Aaahhh Maine. Vacationland - really it's on their plates! Lovely place to visit if you have never read or seen a movie based on a book by Stephen King. If you have then you will probably be all paranoid and uneasy the whole time.

A "storm of the century" is about to hit a village on an small island off the East coast. So while everyone is leaving, getting ready to leave or stocking up on provisions a creepy man kills an older lady. The man actually waits in the house for the police to arrest him. of course they are stuck with the man since the time to leave the island has come and gone. He sems to know everyone's deep dark secrets and keeps saying that he will leave as soon as they give him what he wants. Fine, but he keeps dragging his feet about what exactly it is that he wants. He makes people kill others by using his cane to deliver the message.

By the time he says what he wants you pretty much know what he wants. Actually even before that you know who it involves - I am trying not to give too much away but it is pretty predictable.

Acting was pretty good - actually got a crush on Tim Daly from this miniseries - and the scenery was amazing. I did not find it creepy - which is a must for me to find a horror movie effective - or scary, but it was entertaining.

If you like slashers or gore then skip it. Yes, there is some violence and blood but nothing spectacular - remember this was on tv.

This movie is truly chilling. If you enjoy watching movies that make you think and that promote discussion- this one is right up there (a huge moral issue unfolds as the plot progresses). Also the storyline is fully resolved by the end of the movie, which is somewhat comforting. I don't like cliffhangers endings- especially when the movie is soooo lengthy (more than 4 hours). At my house we watch this one every year during the first winter storm... it's a fun tradition.

A small and very close knit island community brace themselves for what forecasters are calling the winter storm of the century. They know that when the storm hits they will be completely cut off from the mainland and they are trying to prepare for it as best as they can. They have dealt with severe weather before, but they have never experienced a storm quite like this one, as at the same time the weather hits they discover they have a murderer in thier midst. He seems to know everything about them- all of thier darkest thoughts and secrets and he promises to destroy them all, if they do not give him what he wants. But is what he wants too high of a cost to pay? Each islander reaches thier own conclusion about this. One thing that is interesting about the end of this movie is that King provides follow up information about how each character deals with thier decision after the fact and how they were able (or not able) to live with themselves...

I couldn't wait to own this DVD. stephen King does not dissapoint! The story is full of suspence and doesn't lag along.
If you are a Stephen King fan, this is a must own DVD.

My eyes were glued to the tv
it kept you in suspence and wanting to know more as it goes a long..great acting, i was also mad along with the star actor because i wouldn't want to give up my child either and i think that knowing that the wife choose other wise i'm glad the broke up because they would have been miserable together. But i don't know about the small town's accent sounded a little funny but i loved it...and sorry to say but i really don't like small towns everybody knows everybody....

Deliciously exciting,and creepy. I watched it over and over!
It sends shivers up your spine, and specific scenes made you get up and lock your front door-- for example, The Martha CLarigton scene!

I've seen this movie before and had to add it to my personal DVD selection. It's a great movie if you like Sci-Fi stuff. It is one of those movies that makes you think about the supernatural. It's not one of those hack-um up type movies. Don't recommend it for under 13 years old.

Another great movie by Stephen King. This movie deals with the forces of evil vs good. It takes place on an island during the worst snowstorm of the century. This man appears and people mysteriously start dying, little do they know that he wants one of thir children and he'll wipe out the whole island to get his way.
This movie is a must for serious Stephen King fans.

One of Steven Kings best movie ever written, acted a great story line that will keep you on the edge of your seat.. Love the storms.....I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! One of my favorites that I could listen to "and have" over and over again... You will not be disappointed.

I bought STORM OF THE CENTURY because I love atmospheric snow settings in movies. It greatly added to the suspense of the movie and the characters and acting kept you tense and interested. I watched it on TV when it first came out, then I recorded it on a tape, but wanted a better preservation of the movie, so I bought the DvD.

I am a Horror Movie fan and find the greates selections to add to my video library alot cheaper than going to Retail stores, and the videos come to me rather me to them I even save on gas for my car and time searching for that right movie.

I bought it for my mother for christmas. Its her favorite movie and one of my favorites. Stephen king is a great auther. We just love all his movies especially this one.

Always a good movie to watch. We enjoy all Steven King movies. We watched it on halloween night while handing out candy. thank you so much.

Great price, fast and easy!! I decided to buy it because it is one of my mothers favorite movies and what other way can i show that that i love her than buying a movie she loves!

Must have for Stephen King fans. It is a great miniseries. I missed it on TV. I'm glad that I ordered it, so I can watch as many times as I want.

Its long, if you can't do long movies, just warning you. Its about the lenght of two average movies. I would classify it as a mystery movie leaning toward thriller - its not scarey. It is engaging. Great character development. The acting is excellent. The the same character you want to duct tape to a wall in the beginning, push into the ocean in the middle, comfort towards the end.
You will hate it or love it. Me, I loved it. If you watch the movie and then watch it again with the director's commentary - it is quite interesting.

I love steven king movies and novels and this one happens to be one of my favorites. i have been looking for it for years in stores but had no success finding it

This was a great film from Steven King. This was a great buy for me also. I saw this on one of the movie channels but could not view as was aired.

I bought this movie for its great acting, & thought-provoking story line. I've always subscribed to the train of thought that; the good of the many out-ways the good of the individual.....until you're that individual!!! This movie presses the viewer to consider the rights of the community vs the rights of the individuals within that community (using one of the key assets of both community & family... its children).

I love everything that Steven King writes. In most of his movies he stars in a cameo apperance. And although they gross large amounts of money, there are very few graphics in them or special effects.Very little curss

This movie is GREAT..once you start watching, be prepared to watch it the whole way through, because you will not be ble to turn it off!! i even have it on my ipod!! AWESOME Stephen King movie!!

Small town in Maine is cutoff from mainland by deadly snowstorm. A stranger is linked to a series of bizarre murders, and lead by the town sheriff this close knit community if forced to face a choice that will change their lives.
I love most horror genre, but this has a luring suspenseful plot with thrills all along the way. Has a bit of apocalyptic feel, and the extended length of this movie adds to it. Not a lot of fancy special effects just good storytelling translated into a film.

THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING MOVIE. KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT. IT IS A LONG MOVIE ABOUT 3 HOURS. IT REALLY GETS YOU THINKING. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT FOR CHILDREN. GREAT FOR A COUPLE TO WATCH TOGETHER.

this story is one of king's best.it has excellent horror but with a twist of sadness and regret.the acting is top notch.as with all king's stories you wonder what and how it will all play out.
