The Stork Club

At a bargain price and starring Betty Hutton and Barry Fitzgerald I was already interested before even seeing it. This is a deliciously improbable bit of fluff that has some cute moments in it, with billionaire Fitzgerald being saved from drowning by hat check girl Hutton. The billionaire's bumbling
-and anonymous- attempt to "help her out financially and bring her happiness" causes eyebrows to raise, suspicion and romantic troubles with her boyfriend. Hutton tries to help and take care of what she believes to be a homeless and hopeless Fitzgerald and get him on his feet, and he plays along with her confusion so he can see how his attempt to help her is working out. It was cute and quite charming! The movie is just a little bit longer than would have worked best for it. It seems like the best and most charming movies like this one are typically very lighthearted in tone and very fast paced in telling the story; this one plods just a little and a faster pace would have worked a little better still with this movie; but overall it is a cute little romp and a fun way to stretch out some time and indulge myself for an afternoon's entertainment, so I say if you have a chance to get it at a bargain price, it could be a fun bit of fluff to while away 98 minutes. It's a nice piece of improbable Americana set in The Big Apple.
