If you are looking for one book to serve as a comprehensive guide to nearly every aspect of living in the country and fending for yourself, then you owe it to yourself to get this one. You'll refer to it over and over. You'll learn all the wisdom and secrets that have been passed down from generation to generation of folks living in the country. Tips on how to use rubbing alcohol, lighter fluid and vinegar when cleaning, and how to plant a cold and flu garden to make your winter healthier and happier.

This book will definitely become your bible and reference book of choice.

  Bact to Basics
Review created: 08/18/09

This book is wonderful. It shows you how to go back to the basic ways of doing everthing you need to know to live off of. There is nothing I don't like about this book.My son is using it to make things to take to sell at farmers markets. What a find!I bought it because we are going back to the more simple way of living, gardening, small scale farming , canning, homemade things, etc. the forgotten way of life.

  Definitely Worth it!
Review created: 05/21/09

My mother has this book and I just bought one for my mother-in-law. It is thick with hundreds of useful tips and tools for all sorts of things, ranging from gardening to animal care, and all sorts of things in between. This is definitely worth it to anyone who spends a lot of time outside. Its great for yourself or great as a gift. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and family.

Could be called Skills For Living Well Anywhere!
Review created: 02/09/09

The title could be somewhat misleading as this book has information for everyone living anywhere. This is a great guide book, very extensive in its content. Looked to be a great survival guide for living in the country and doing just about everything on a gentlemen's farm. We have only had this book a short time. Purcased in January, we are starting to do home work to prepare for spring garden prep. We are considering doing a few chickens and possibly other livestock and expect this book to be a great help.
We have already learned some of the mistakes we were doing in caring for our fruit trees. Using the skills gained from this book we are hoping to improve the health and yield from the trees we already have as well as adding other to the "orchard".
There are also a wealth of tips and skills that cover topics that could be used for any living situation, including suburban apartment dwellers. Included, are a number of chapters relating to "inside" skills, from baking, canning and preserving to sewing and cleaning ideas.
Definitely worth the cost of the book for the tips inside.

  Storey's Basic Country Skills

I bought the book for the gardening section which I found to be helpful. I liked the ideas they had, even though the section was brief. I think it will prove to be a helpful resource.

Book is just too basic. I would suggest finding another more in depth manual. I found "The Manual Of Pratical Homsteading" to be very useful, even though it was printed in 75
