  Another good book from Mr.Goodkind.

I am a fan of this series, however some of the books in it seem to stand the plot still, meaning not very much seems to happens, also the lenght of some are nearly shorter by half than others. I would still recommend reading them to any lover of epic adventure.

This book is well written. You can really "see" what the author writes, you can visualize everything. The plot isnt what you would have expected either, there are twists and turns that leave you guessing as to what will happen next. It was a great sequel to Wizards First Rule. I decided to buy this book because Wizards First Rule was so well written and I just had to see if Richard and Kayla were able to get together. I had absolutely no dislikes about the book at all. Infact I went ahead and bought the next three books in the series.

Stone of Tears - Sword Of Truth

I really enjoy this collection of books as a whole... When I see them on a shelf I will often choose one of these epics for an low intensity read. Full of ethical debating and social conflicts mixed in with epic travel, magic and conflict, involving Richard Cypher(Rahl) and Kalan, these are a good choice for an enjoyable easy read. This is the second of a series called the "Sword of Truth" books. I would recommend them for upper teens and older as there are some concepts and moral conditions touched upon in these books that are unsuitable for individuals that could misunderstand the authors true intentions and use of graphic abuse, gore and torture. Otherwise, These books read very easily and rarely go into long pontification. This individual book I found to be a bit long and drawn out for the specific events and timeframe that were depicted in the story. But, it explains many of the things that are referred to in later books, and even though does not loose the interest of the reader.

The life of Richard, the Seeker
Review created: 06/02/09

This book, a continuation of the sword of truth series, and sequel to "Wizards' First Rule", continues on with the story of Richard, the last seeker to be named in 1000 years.

This book holds many captivating elements that any epic fantasy book should have: love, hate, a sworn enemy, friends who are not what they appear, and strange arcane occurrences that defy explanation.

I bought this book because it was the sequel to "Wizards' First Rule", but I am even more bound to this series than that simple link, as the book "Stone of Tears" has all the elements and momentum of the first book, and is as lengthy as well.

In comparison with other fantasy books, this book is among the best. In order to understand what is happening in "Stone of Tears" one must first read "Wizards' First Rule".

This book, as well as the other books in the Sword of Truth series, is a book used as background for the TV show becoming more popular in America named "Legend of the Seeker".

If you're looking for a captivating read, and love fantasy style books, then this book and its relatives should fit in nicely.

  Cheap thrills, but thrills nonetheless
Review created: 03/15/09

If you liked the first book, you'll probably like this one too. It has the same sexy sword and spell tone and the same focus on Richard and Kahlan's intense and angsty romance. It also has the same flaws.

Overall, Stone of Tears is not very well constructed. Whenever Goodkind writes himself into a corner, some new magical spell or beastie that we've never heard of before shows up as a plot point ex machina. There's also a lot of sleaze. It isn't that the story involves sex, rape, violence and other prurient elements so much as that sex, rape and violence are slathered in on top of the plot for cheap thrills. The characters come off as types, and not particularly well-written types: Rachel is the Piteous Little Girl, etc., etc. Do NOT pick up this book expecting a universe that follows or even remembers its own rules.

So when is it okay for authors to do this? When the book is still fun to read. If you want to shut your mind off for a couple hours but don't want the hangover or the video game headache, then this is the way to do it.

Book was really good. I really like the new characters brought in, specially Gratch. Only thing that bothered me was the length, but it was needed for the character development. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

  great story!

The sword of truth series is very enjoyable. The story moves swiftly along so you do not get tired of it. There are 12 books in the series, so it takes a while to get through it. The reading is a little adult for young readers, I feel. But not to mature. Great reading!!

Wanted to read it since I liked "Legend of the Seeker" tv series. I wanted to read it to get an idea of the amount of artistic innovation needed for the TV series... I prefer the book even theogh the series is pretty good as well.

I will undoubtedly try to read the entire series now that I've read book 1 and 3. I'll be getting to this one pretty soon.

I like his attention to detail in this story, I love the characters. There are moments of boredom but all in all this was a great book. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes to read! It is full of adventure but I really love the romance he managed to pull off as well.

I decided to buy this book as a present for my brother. He never saves his books after he reads them, so I figured I would be better off spending my money on a used one. I liked that the book came as a single and not in the set with the rest of the series.

Stone of Tears by Terry Goodkind (1996)

This is by far one of the best fantasy writers of this era, nest to tolkien and some of the other bests. Goodkind really keeps readers involved and anxious with his descriptive, and intriguing writing style. I have literally stayed up for hours trying to find out what happens next. Truly an original piece of work, filled with a whole new world full of new creatures and new ideas, morals, and moral decisions. He gives great depth to his characters without boring you to death with insignificant details. This book seems to me to be an equal to that of Wizard's First Rule, and I enjoyed it to the very last page.

Recommended Authors: Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time Series)
George R.R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire Series)
L.E. Modesitt Jr. (The Saga of Recluce Series)
Terry Goodkind (The Sword of Truth Series)
J.R.R. Tolkien (The Hobbit, Lord of The Rings)
