If you are a fan of the Tom Selleck character, Jesse Stone, you will enjoy this movie. It will hold your attention throughout the movie,as the mystery of who is murdering the residents of Paradise is solved by Chief Jesse Stone and his department. It also shows insight into Jesse's personal life and his continuing struggles with his own demons. It even has a few unexpected surprises along the way. I enjoyed this film.

  Serious, Gruesome, Entertaining, Magnificent!

In this Stone thriller, the lines are all great. The acting is even better. The directing was so smoothe and convincing that the movie is very believable. Pardon the pun but it was another home run for Selleck. This is truly a five-star movie.

If you haven't seen the Jesse Stone movies yet, get 'em. I'm absolutely sure you'll enjoy them as much as the rest of the countless Selleck fans. These movies are similar to the Bogart genre, only in the now....As close to the novels as can be in a 1 1/2 hr to 2 hr movie can be. Robert Parker has done a great job......

I loved this movie because it was a slow paced mystery in a small New England town
The town setting and by the water was key to this movies backdraft. Even the cool
crisp weather blended well. I am a big fan of Tom Selleck he played this part to
perfection in my opinion. I saw this movie twice on tv so I wanted to have in my
movie collection. Also the price was excellent. Hope this review is ok,Dennis
PS The music in the background was a perfect fit to this movie

  Mystery at its best
Review created: 09/06/08

Tom Selleck is excellent as Jesse Stone, with his brooding flaws. If you are a fan of the books, you'll love the movies. For a sleepy little town, Paradise is full of secrets. Most of which can get you killed. Jesse shakes things up in all the right ways. He has a heart and gets the job done, even if his personal life is a wash out.

This is not Magnum, PI. Tom Selleck plays a good dramatic role; the supporting cast is well balanced; the directing and writing excellent. Selleck is portrayed as person trying to salvage his life from adversity, and as a person with human failities. The whole series is par excellence...don't miss it !!!

Not exactly the book but a good movie.
Review created: 04/07/08

I really like the Jesse Stone series by Robert B. Parker. I really like Tom Selleck. Sometimes I get exasperated by the liberties the movies take with the novels. (I want to see the book come to life!) "Stone Cold" is probably no exception but there is an special feature with interviews that explain why they do what they do to the books. The movie is great with equally great characters. That said, don't expect them to follow the books as closely as some books-to-movies.

Great movie. Love Tom Selleck and anything written by Robert Parker is fantastic! The Jesse Stone series is my favorite. I think there are four in the series already and another should be out soon.

Tom Selleck plays a Police Chief of a small city in a New England setting. The story is a modern day murder mystery that takes Selleck's style to solve it.

This role was made for Tom Selleck. He has ruined it for anyone else, that's for sure. Can't feature anyone else playing Jesse Stone. Much as Sean Connery forever defined 007, Selleck has defined the Jesse Stone charactger.

  Stone Cold - Selleck/Rogerw
Review created: 05/08/07

I enjoyed the movie because I like the actors. Unfortunately, it plays more as a series of scenes pieced together rather than a complete story. I enjoyed, would pay for it again, but rate it only average. Not up to Robert B. Parker standards.

What you think starts off, as a typical Tom Selleck movie...well sit back, make sure you have everything first. Have the remote handy as well. If you miss any portion of this film...dont rewind, becuase you will miss alot of the concept of the film.
It is a slow sinking in film any crime noir will enjoy. Right off the bat you are involved with the crime. A professional baseball player turned cop, a former drunken la detective turned small town cop, a big city lawyer turned small town public defender, a big city girl turned da and lover to the chief of police who is 20 years older than her. serial killers loose in the country spy and prey on the town. Rich kids who get away with murder. All this moves into one large expanding plot. Which idea is going to run away and get lost?
Which star is going to out perform the other?

Tom Selleck and Mimi Rogers are the 2 main characters. And yet allt he background characters seems to be stepping on all the toesw here as they merge into the main screen and step on everyones toes. Great directing, great lighting...the greys and blacks need to go...but still a new classic film under the belt for Tom Selleck.
