This book is a BUTCH BIBLE!

This work by Leslie Feinberg in my opinion is the BUTCH BIBLE, no other way to put it. The author is so honest about gender identity issues that it made me cry more times than I can count. I identified with almost every step the main character in this book took. . . I think every young gay/transgendered person, male or female can/does identify with most if not all the issues that are addressed in this book. Leslie is an incredible writer and I admire her ability to take the reader on the journey called life in a way that truly makes you understand the pain of what it is like to grow up in a world that simply does not accept you and would prefer if you did not exist. The violence, job and housing discrimination, loneliness, family rejection, blatant hatred, fear, danger, health issues, fear of being touched, fear of intimacy, just plain fear are all things that a gay/transgendered person learns to live with on an almost daily basis and we will continue to live with this type of pain until we are granted basic human rights just like heterosexuals have enjoyed since the beginning of time. It is so important for us (gay and transgendered persons) to join forces to bring this change about for the sake of future generations. It is NOT okay for us to be considered to be 2nd class citizens! It is NOT okay for us to live in a closet, hide our sexuality, hide the fact that we love who we love. It is NOT okay for us to continue to lose our jobs, be evicted from our homes, be attacked on the streets, be refused the right to marry, be denied any basic human right. My life partner of 28 years died in my arms from heart problems and it is NOT okay that I was not able to give permission to the undertaker to have her remains cremated because I was not considered to be "family"! That is NOT okay! We need to join forces and continue to work together in a constructive manner to change laws so that we can enjoy the things every American can and should enjoy! This book is a very important piece of work and should be read by every young person and adult with an open mind regardless what their life path is. . . .I can guarantee that it will change your life forever!
