I gave this one 4 "stars" so to speak because I felt that The Ninth Gate was weak. I will get into that in a bit. Sti of Echoes on the other hand, was wonderful.
Kevin Bacon is extraordinary in this wonderful thriller. This movie takes a frightening dive into the supernatural. The supernatural being the ability to see things and know things that others can't and don't. It is frightening yet not so much so that you wouldn't want to watch the movie. I loved this movie.
The Ninth Gate was less than stellar. The one saving grace of the movie is that Johnny Depp brings with him charm. He adds a certain likeability to the main character. The movie itself, has a very interesting plot idea. However, I felt that there were so many inconsistencies in the story. So many unfinished puzzles, so to speak.
This movie had great potential. It just seemed to lack follow through with any single idea or story line. There were too many things that happened taht had no apparent explanation or place in the movie. I was actually quite disappointed.
All in all, this is a good set to have.
