  Stones Rocking The Stadiums
Review created: 11/30/06

The Stones keep plugging away with studio album after studio album. And after so many, they put out another live album. This one is after Tattoo You was released, when they toured stadium after stadium. Every live album they've released is excellent including this one.

Still Life starts it off with excellent rocking versions of Under My Thumb and Let's Spend The Night Together. A couple songs later they play Going To A Go-Go, a cover of the Miracles. I don't recall this song on their studio albums, but I like it on this CD. This is a good live album, but the best of the set are the first 2 songs and the last 2 songs (except for 50 seconds of the Star Spangled Banner which doesn't really count). They finish off with Start Me Up and Satisfaction, and they rock the house (or the stadium) with these final two numbers. I really enjoy hearing the Stones play Satisfaction on their live albums, because no two versions sound alike, and none of them are really close to the original. Not to say you won't recognize the song, but they add in so many different things. They also play Shattered on this album, and you can pretty much say the same thing about that song, but for different reasons. They play Shattered a little different because they have to. They don't have the luxury of the studio when they're playing live, and the vocals sound kind of goofy on that one. But the rest of the song rocks, and so does the whole album basically. One thing that kind of disappoints me (but not very much) is that they don't really have any songs on here that date the performance besides Start Me Up. I guess that's just personal preference, but I like it when a band has 2 or 3 songs from their new album on their live album, but oh well. I say this only because I know when a band comes out with a new album, they play a lot of them live because they want the audience to buy it if they haven't already. Oh well, who cares? It rocks and that's the most important thing.
