Stiff by Mary Roach (2004, Paperback, Reprint)

I was referred by a friend. It is definately not a book for the squeemish as Miss Roach gets into detail about cadavers and their dissections and the experiments performed on them. Very interesting read overall.

I guess I have a morbid sense of curiousity. I bought this book because I was in a stage play about the stealing of cadavers as was mentioned in this book. I am also an Emergency Medical Technician, so my interest in this subject is high. I enjoyed this book greatly; authors dry humor was excellent, yet in taste. It did seem to become a bit dry toward the end but overall was a good, quick read.

Who would think you would be laughing as you read about this topic? She has a way of throwing huomr in the strangest places. Be sure and read the footnotes.

I decided to purchase this book because I have always been interested in the human body. A friend told me about the book, so I came to half.com to get the best deal. I didn't need a "brand new" copy, so I checked out the "like new" and "used" headings. Once I started this book, I honestly couldn't put it down. It is a wonderful blend of humor and facts. I wasn't expecting a book on this sort of subject matter to be so hilarious, but Mary Roach is an excellent writer and managed to respectfully pull it off. Mary Roach is now one of my favorite authors and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.

A friend bought this for me as a gift because she knows I have eclectic interests. It was extremely interesting. And also fun. A must for the curious. My daughter has read it, a friend has read it and my doctor has read it. All loved it!

Got the book in great condition and rather quickly. I liked the speed of service and the fact that the seller was honest about the condition of the book. I decided to buy it because it was a good price and the seller had a good history of reviews.

This book is totally exciting and what a point of view. I thought that the author was original and insightful. I only bought it because it said morbid, funny!!!

lighthearted quirky descriptions when appropriate. overall an enjoyable read!

If you've ever wondered what happens next, as far as the human condition and preparation is concerned, this is an excellent book to demystify all of those mysteries. It also explains all of the other options besides the grave, or cremation - - - there are quite a few unusual and interesting options. Do read!

This book is very informitive of what happens to our body when we die. Somethings I never thought of.

The topic of what happens to bodies after death seemed interesting at first, but as I waded through chapter after chapter of grisly detail, I lost interest. Once Mary Roach started to talk about methods of cremation, etc., I really lost interest. I read many reviews that said this book was suitable for high schoolers, but I think most students would quit this book after the first few chapters.

Roach shows a lack of respect for the dead and makes death into a joke. However, that is not why I do not recommend the book. The book simply became a bore and I had to plough through it by the half way marker.

Its awesome to learn about the cadavers and how they function and what is done with them. I never knew any of this stuff and it piqued my curiosity, however, it was so informational (with a bit of humor) that It felt like reading a quirky textbook. The information was excellent, but the style didnt keep my interest. I read part of it at a friends house and only got a tidbit. When I bought the book, I expected it to be fictional, but it was non-fiction and a bit lecturey at parts. However, despite my personal feelings about the book, the author did a great job. I'd reccomend the book to someone who likes this kind of stuff.

I loved this book. It was funny and a little gross at the same time. If you like weird stuff this is the book for you.

Great book, and easily the single most important work conceived about what happens to a body after death since the seminal documentary, Night of the Living Dead.

I'm using this book for an english class and it is in awesome shape! A little bent on the cover, but that really doesn't matter. I very much recommend this book, it is in very good shape and sold at a decent price.
