Excellent movie!! One of my favorites. It shows how much a mother loves her daughter, and would do anything for her, even to the point of driving her away....to a better living environment, for her daughters best interest in mind, not Stellas. She gave up her daughter to her father, so that her daughter could have a better life. Excellent excellent movie.

This is a tender story, sometimes we just have to loss everything to do the right thing. It's amazing how Bette Midler can go from a vulgar and nasty woman to an elegant fancee lady and you still will always love her, no matter the roll.

A great chick flick!One of my alltime favorites! Makes my cry everytime. It reminds me on my Mom and I in many ways. It is a chick flick but so worth a watch!

A good example of a good movie with none of the bad things we see everyday. You will love it. Bette plays her role to a "t" and you will fall in love with her as a mom trying to do best for her child. Gets a little "teary" at the end.

This was one of Bette's early movies. She plays a very crude/uneducated woman who has an affair with a medical student she met in a bar. They have a baby girl together but never marry. Their child grows up to be a wonderful and lovely young woman. Bette does things that embarass her child terribly. Bette knows in her heart that it will be best for her child if she lives with her dad. He can give her culture...something her mom does not truly understand. In the end the child marries into a great family. Bette does not go to the wedding because she does not want to embarass her child. But she watches the I do's from an outside window. She just wants to see her face. Moving story of love and devotion.
