I'm not sure what popped into my mind when I decided to do a search for this book, but I can tell you I'm glad I bought it.
Don't buy (or steal) this "How To" book if you think you are going to learn any thing practical. It's more a reflection of the times (before this reader was born) when our country was in the midst of Peace, Love, and Counter Coulture.
You'll learn such outdated things as how to place a free call from a telephone booth. How to write and produce pamplets, alternative newspapers; where to go if you need free medical care; where to write if you want to join a commune... etc. etc. The writing isn't great and doesn't really translate into today's modern world; but it is an interesting, and at times comical, look back at a very important time in our country's history.

This is a period peice. Don't read this book expecting to learn too much. This is basic how to steal, how to be a revolutionary stuff, I didn't really learn anything I didn't already know.

A lot of the stuff described in this book is illegal. Just a quick heads up.

You have to remember that when this book came out, it was ground breaking. They didn't have the internet, and the only way people learned how to do this kind of stuff was to try and try again, and failing often meant a run-in with the law that ended future attempts.

This is the original how-to book on being a rebel. This is history. Know your roots.

 a good hippie guideline...

Granted that much of the information is dated in this book, it's understandable considering when it was written. Putting that aside, though, in my opinion, it's one of those staple books for anyone interested in the hippie lifestyle. Great info from anything from starting your own Underground Newspapers to making your own Street Salad and Whole Earth Bread. Yummy.
