"Staying Power" won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. The man with the deep, velvety voice capable of making women melt at a thousand paces returned in 1999 with another slice of sensous R&B. White was the original Love Man, the one who taught the moves to every would-be mack daddy who's come down the pike since he appeared on the scene in the '70s. As befits one with so luxurious a voice, White intones over mostly slow-to-midtempo grooves, and the long tracks leave plenty of space for White's larger-than-life voice. The sultry mood does kick up a notch occasionally, though, as on the percolating, funky version of War's '70s hit "Low Rider." There are two versions of "The Longer We Make Love," which pair White with Chaka Khan and Lisa Stansfield, respectively. On both of these, White trades lines with his partner in a manner suggestive of his most evocative '70s hits, despite the very contemporary-sounding arrangement. White makes good on the album's title, proving himself the singer most likely to be heard in the boudoir. Editorial Reviews Entertainment Weekly (07/30/1999) | Find errors in the product description? Reviews Barry does a superb job on this CD. His voice in one in a million, there is no other voice like his on the Planet. He is at his best on this CD. I love it. Cons: No lyrics, adult content. To me the sound of a mans voice is a real selling point. Peter Steele [Type O Negative], Vin Diesel, Christian Bale and Cole Hauser all top my list of hot voices . Now, before you fall off the chair in a fit of laughter, think about it. A guy walks up behind you, says something a little on the nasty side and you simply melt. Now, take that thought and put it to music and you have Barry White s Staying Power . I ll put it bluntly, unless you are going to be doing something physical you aren t going to want to play this because, frankly, it will have you climbing the walls. I don t own any... I want more passion, not parental guidance. Throughout his career, Barry White has been regarded as the Maestro with the deep voice who can light most anyone's fire. In other words, put the Maestro in the air, and it's time to get bare! His music pulsates with sensual overtones and lusty lyrics. His motto is pleasure. Anyone who loves Barry White's music knows the true meaning of eargasm. His music will keep you coming back for more...and more. I mean, what woman wouldn't want a man with Staying Power? I'm referring to the CD of course (wink wink). ~ P L A Y L I S T ~ "Staying Power" (6:10) Pulsating rhythm. Groovin' bass. Fingers... Review ID: 10000000000268289 Review created: 02/19/00 by: LadyChristine -- a member of Epinions Pros: Everything on this album, his singing, the duets, everything Cons: Nothing I've been a fan of Barry White since I was 15 years old. Now, almost 13 years later, his music still has the power to move me. Staying power is, in my mind, a mild way to describe the gift that Barry White has. The Maestro is the master of his craft. And he's worked his magic once again in this CD. This CD has 11 tracks. And while some may think I'm blowing smoke, I have to say that all 11 tracks are wonderful. I don't know about you, but I can't think of too many CDs that I've heard that didn't have a few lame songs on it. Lou Bega's CD, Little Bit of Mambo, is a good example of that. But... Review ID: 10000000000268291 Review created: 12/21/99 by: cjjones -- a member of Epinions Pros: good romantic evening music Cons: not party music Barry White's latest cd "Staying Power" shows that he definitely still has staying power. I have been a fan of Barry's since the 1970's. His music and messages were and still are about love. Staying Power is one song to be listened to by men when they want to put women "in the mood". The entire cd is excellent listening music. The only downside is that it is only for slow dances; party music it is not. All tracks are message music.
