Starting an eBay Business for Dummies by Marsha Collier (2004, Paperback)

This book really does have something for everyone that plays in the eBay arena. Author Marsha Collier gives you real world advice on not only how to sell, but how to research what to sell and find out how much it will sell for. Now obviously the book cannot tell you how popular something may be, but it teaches you just about every way to find out.

What I appreciated the most about this book is how serious it talks about running your eBay business like... a business. Marsha helps you understand the basics from setting up your back office (inventory, taxes, computer networking and more) to taking great photographs and writting item descriptions that will sell. I am constantly re-reading certain areas of the book to help me fine tune the small amount of sales I do with my part-time hobby. I plan on expanding my sales in the future, and this book will help anyone (including myself) do just that.

I just got involved in my first few e-bay purchases and saw some strange things going on behind the scenes. I figured the only way I could ever run my own successful e-aby business was to know everything there is to know. Not being a technical person by nature, I knew I needed a book that would explain the ins and outs of this business in lay terms and the first stop was my local library. I went one Saturday afternoon and checked four books, three were too technical and I finally settled on this book, unfortunately it was the 2001 version, and the world of e-bay has changed. I went into Half.com and found the most recent version at a price that couldn’t be beat. The book was in perfect condition and I read it twice. E-bay is a fun and potentialy profitable place to do business, but you better know what you’re doing before you venture in, I highly recommend this book due to its simple lay terms and explantions.

This is a great book! It is full of information and facts that are important in starting up an eBay business. It is easy reading and capable of holding one's interest. It also has the ability to alow the reader to pick it up or put it down at any point. Any reader will be able to go to any topic in the book at any time and glean out of any chapter what they are interested at the moment. I bought this book to help me set up an eBay business for myself. The information in it is clear and easy to follow. I like being able to go back to any chapter and read over what I am working on that day in the process of setting up my own business. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is contemplating starting an eBay business.

I THINK ALL THE "FOR DUMMIES" BOOKS ARE PRETTY WELL DONE. THEY USE HUMOR TO HOLD YOUR ATTENTION. THIS BOOK IS ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR BEGINNERS I THINK. This book is very knowledgeable about it's offered subject. Easy to read. We have people in line to borrow it when we are done. We bought it for it's subject and for the "Dummies" reputation. Would purchase more books in future.

Great book to have. Things I`m learning from this even though I have been selling for seven years. Several ins and outs. I`m sure I will go back and use as a reference several times over.

Great "For Dummies" book...as usual!!! The series of these books are always easy to read and understand and extremely helpful!! I use "For Dummies" books for just about everything!! Havingworked on computes for 25 years, I find "For Dummies" books wonderful resource books written, HA, for dummies!!!

This book is excellent for the beginning E-bayer. Would highly recommend for just getting started. It provides alot of good insight on every aspect of how EBAY works and what is required to make it happen. It provides little tidbits of accurate info. and where to go to get answers on accounts, fees, etc. Must have for the collection.

My husband has been selling on eBay for 11 years. Having been unemployed for a short time, I decided to try selling on eBay as a side business until I could find full-time work. I purchased this book to tell me all the ins and outs of eBay so that I would not have to constantly go to my husband with qustions (he has a great "day job"). It was very informative and I loved that it came to me in excellent condition in a very timely fashion. Thanks!

I made some good decisions about my Ebay business based on the authors experience.

Unemployed, can't find a job and all you can do is cry...woe is me. Get a computer, an ISP and the book...start your own business...cheaper than rent on a store. Spend a little time reading...less than college and better than standing in the unemployment line. Crying about lousy working conditions...not any more, your the boss you set the hours, you make the rules. Still crying...the system is against me...you are the system...get the book dummy, give it a shot and quit you whining.

Never received the Book. I have the first edition and would have liked the second edition. Since I didn't receive the second edition purchase I am taking an online ebay business class from ed2go. Contacted the seller but had no reply due to the purchase according to usps was sent back to the sender.

This was a wonderful reference for any starter or established seller. Although most of this info can be found online or on ebay itself, it is an easy reference and gives a lot of tips for starters.

I've been looking for an ebay business for dummies book for quite a while and when I finally found when at my local book store it was selling for $30(a LITTLE over priced). Just read his feed back left for others and the feed back left for him. I have over 1800 ebays and this rat bag remains the only idiot that left me neg fb. I hit the buy it now button twice by accident and he wanted me to pay for both cards. I was told by ebay, they could refund his money with no problem and did. He stuck me with 2 strikes (which Ebay REMOVED!) I paid for the other card so why the NEG FB and strike for both? Well that's how he works with people. Ebay removed the strikes but can't remove his NEG FB. I (3 years now) keep spreading the word. Boycott this seller. By your computer stuff else where.

'Endgame-Master' gives you unjust you NEG feedback. Join the club of over dozensof people! This jerk is being watched on Ebay. He leaves neg FB on anyone who leaves him Neutral or Negative feedback. PLEASE do the following now...

1) File a complaint to ebay on him immeditly and explain the situation, especially the NEG FB deal.

2) Ask him to provide you PROOF of Insurance purchase (get the #). Rumor had it he makes everyone pay $2 for this and pockets the money (boy that's a BIG $$$ one) hundreds of people time $2. Also make sure he has the Insurance #. The person that told me this said he tried to be slick and gave the P.O. shipping tracking # instead.

3) Log on and do a 'Follow UP' to Feed back both on your comment and his. Indicated to all his vindictivness and how he treated you.

4) Keep following up with ebay till they do something.

This was average. If you have common sense and a little business know how you can figure almost all of this stuff out on your own. If you don't, then the book might be for you.
