I have not seen the mini series or ensuing series, but I had the book and finally decided to read it. I can see why they changed the name of Gracie and her gay BFF Will in the TV version! With Debra Messing as Gracie, that would have been very odd.
In the book, we never really figure out why the highly intelligent and driven Gracie was ever married to "Kenny the Pig." He dumps her via cell phone and embarks upon a relationship with Britney Spears. That part is very odd. Britney has a role in the book and that was difficult for me to wrap my head around.
Gracie has a mild thing for Kenny's boss, Lou. He has way too much baggage.
She also finds herself intrigued with a sexy, smart, older man. What could be wrong with him? Oh yeah, he's homeless. By choice...
So Gracie in Malibu finds herself amidst her divorce. It's a good read but I'll have to now watch the show to see if I like it!
