Based on the crime-fighting television series of the same name, STARSKY & HUTCH follows the exploits of two west coast detectives. David Starsky (Ben Stiller) is a by-the-books officer who would like nothing more than to expose his partner Hutch's bouts of inconsistency. Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson (Owen Wilson) is a far more open-minded spirit with a tendency for meandering. Added to the mix is the world's coolest informant, Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg), who wears an endless parade of stylish outfits. Starsky and Hutch's rival is the charming yet brutal Reese Feldman (Vince Vaughn), a maniacal drug lord with an absurd moustache who is prone to dramatic outbursts. Phillips uses freeze frames and slow-motion to up the comic ante, while Stiller and Wilson prove that they are a truly compatible duo, and, finally, Will Ferrell makes yet another scene-stealing cameo--all factors that ensure a long shelf life for this raucous spoof.

Starsky and Hutch Another Great Wilson/Stiller/Vaughn/Ferrell Film I wasn't that excited about Starsky and Hutch, and after watching it the first time I didn't really like it. I don't know what changed but after seeing it a few times on the Movie Channel, Starsky and Hutch started to grow on me. This movie is hilarious... it just took me a couple of views to realize it. Wilson, Stiller, Vaughn, and Ferrell are perfect, and the laughs keep coming throughout the entire film. Snoop Dogg is a great addition to this film as a high-level snitch. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: After a few views opened my eyes I rushed out and picked up a copy of this great comedy. This movie belongs in any comedy fans DVD collection. You've got three funny characters in this movie... Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. How can you go wrong! Add Snoop Dogg and you've got yourself a funny movie! It's based on the 70's TV Series Starsky & Hutch. Good item for the Starsky & Hutch Fan. Review ID: 10000000001431156 Was this review helpful? Report this review Reviews Review created: 08/01/08 by: I was a fan of the original series and own all dvds. I knew the movie would not be exactly the same as the show, but this was completely nothing like the series! This was the worst remake of all the remakes done of 70's shows! A tribute is supposed to honor the show it is paying homage to. This movie completely mocked it. The original characters had chemistry which was part of the shows appeal. Ben and Owen had none. The original also was a drama with comedic moments - not a comedy like this film. The ONLY highlight of this mess was the end where the original series actors (Paul Michael Glaser & David Soul)appeared briefly. Snoop Dogg was very good at his portrayal of Huggy Bear. Thank goodness I never spent my money seeing this in the theatre. I only saw it when a friend brought the dvd by to watch. I do own it, as it was given to me as a Christmas gift. But honestly, I would never have purchased it myself. True S&H fans will be disappointed with this remake. Review ID: 10000000008146463 Was this review helpful? I was more interested in BJ and the Bear and the Dukes of Hazzard. I remembered the car - like the Dukes. However, I wasn't your average kid and did pay attention. I later became a cop - and those childhood dreams were fueled by alot of the police shows. This movie has made big improvements to the original series and played well with the old case. Snoop Dog as "Huggy Bear" was hiliarious! You could understand Snoop and he played the part very well. You were looking for Huggy to make his appearance in the movie and wished that he played a bigger roll. The plot was enteraining. If you expected a good murder mystery or drama, you are looking at the wrong movie. It is light hearted humor and good for laughs. If you are a product of the 70's (even as a child) you will flash back and laugh aloud at the silly little things in this movie. Thank you for taking me back. It was fun and I am glad it was only a visit. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson work GREAT together. Ever since "Something About Mary" there has been a good partnership with these too. Too bad the they trashed a couple of cars in this movie. I want one once again. It is worth watching and worth purchasing for your collection if you are a fan. I will always be a fan and would watch another Stiller / Owen version of Starsky and Hutch. Review ID: 10000000006051434 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
