Starrcade: The Essential Collection (DVD, 2009)

Starting back in 1983, professional wrestling took a chance at an event that would shake the squared circle by its very foundation. For close to two decades, it was the signature event; first in NWA, then WCW. Some of the greatest Superstars in wrestling history had defining moments at the event. Although this event was never a part of the WWE faction, it is only fitting that WWE Home Video present "Starrcade: The Essential Collection", a 3-disc DVD set featuring some of the greatest highlights from the history of this groundbreaking series. Collected in this DVD are many of the great matches that helped to define what Starrcade would become. The talent of combatants contained reads like a who's-who of wrestling's top stars; The Midnight Express, Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan, Sting, The Road Warriors, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Eddie Guerrero, Dusty Rhodes, Greg Valentine, Harley Race, The Steiner Brothers, Magnum T.A. and Steve Austin are all well represented here. There is also commentary from such folks as Todd Grisham, Road Warrior Animal, Gene Okerlund, Jim Ross, Tully Blanchard, Ric Flair and David Crockett, each one providing a unique insight as to why this event would mean so much to so many people. For the first time on DVD, the greatest matches of Starrcade are collected in a 3-disc set, along with a new and exclusive documentary exploring the 18-year history of the event. Starrcade may be gone, but fans of sports entertainment continue to celebrate its rich tradition and lasting legacy. What a great way to pay tribute to the memory of this classic wrestling extravaganza!
