I first saw this movie with my then girlfriend (now wife of 21 years) back in the early 80's. Jeff Bridges is outstanding as the friendly alien who takes the form (face, features) of Karen Allen's deceased husband. The movie touches all of your emotions (humor, grief, anger, etc.). You can't help but get choked up by Karen Allen and her obvious broken heart of her lost/deceased husband and then only to see her go from a mild hatred to true love of Bridges as the movie progesses. Charles Martin Smith (Toad from American Graffiti) also gives a great supporting role as the G-11 gov't scientist who is part of the NORAD team trying to track down the alien. His final FU to his boss is both classic and subtle, you really have to look for it. It's a wonder Smith has not done many other films as he seems to always capture the audience from his hysterical Toad character, to the Lone scientist in Never Cry Wolf and as a supporting gov't agent in the Untouchables with Kevin Costner (Not one of my favorites...the movie).

As for Starman Bridges is the real star who you cannot help but want to make your best guy friend and women most likely would love some alien compassion.

I forgot Michael Douglas produced this film under the LucasFilm umbrella, and does a great job. I always thought a sequel would be made but all that ever came from this movie was a short lived TV series that , well, sucked!

Perhaps now 20+ years later a sequel could and would be appropriate.

For a good 2 hours of entertainment and even some life lessons Starman hits the mark! Enjoy it with friends and those close to you, you'll be glad you did.

I'd be remiss (and I am not an employee) that I bought this new on ebay from Thermite-Media. The picutre quality and overall quality of this DVD is A+++. I reccomend this store for buyers of hard to find new DVD...new or old.
