Excellent Science Fiction TV series

Stargate SG-1 lasted 10 years on TV and was based on the movie that starred Kurt Russell and James Spader. Very good special effects and a somewhat complex story line involving alien interaction with Earth that dated back to the Egyptian Pharaoh dynasties. The premise of the series is that many of the Egyptian writings and culture could be tied to aliens that came into our galaxy and that they installed stargate portals to travel from one galaxy to another. Earth has several locations where these portals were installed and were used by the earth team to seek out the aliens that lived at the other portals. The portals provided contact with good as well as malevolent beings. The TV series mostly focused on the battles that occurred with the less friendly alien encounters. The series ran from 1997-2007 and there are also two DVD releases (Stargate: Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum) after the series ended on TV in 2007.
