A Classic of Science Fiction

This is one of the classics of Sci-Fi cinema, a movie that spawned not only a (so far) 10-season television series, but also a second series beginning its third season, as I write this review!
I think we've all had dreams about finding an ancient artifact that will give us magical powers or allow us to travel through space (well, maybe its just nerds like me, but nevertheless). Well, that's what happens to infamous Egyptologist Dr. Daniel Jackson, a man on the fringes of the academic community because of his insane theories about aliens and the pyramids.
Long story short, he's proved right, and he gets to travel to a distant world where the gods of Egypt still reign supreme, and humanity is nothing more than slave labor.
I still recall the first time I saw this movie. I went again the next day, with the same group of friends. I think I saw it five times at the theater in all, a feat no movie was able to duplicate until the LotR series came to the big screen.
Needless to say, I highly recommend this thoughtful, exciting science fiction film. Any serious DVD collector should have one in his/her library!
