Stargate: Atlantis - Season 1 (DVD, 2009, 5-Disc Set; Checkpoint)

I purchased this set of DVDs primarily because I own and enjoy the Stargate SG1 series, and this is a spinoff. Also I am a Richard Dean Anderson fan, and knew him to be in the pilot of this series. I also wanted to be able to understand and enjoy season 3 when it is available, because he appears in that season and I find all of these best enjoyed sequentially or some of the references make no sense...you are not "in" on the history so to speak. I quickly because just as enthralled with Atlantis as I am with Stargate SG1, even with Anderson slated to be an infrequent guest star. Any Sci-Fi fan will love either of these series, they are very rich in plot detail and easily allow you to suspend disbelief. The extra effects are superior and actual science references tend to be factual and correct...I am a Paramedic, and in particular find inaccuracies in treatments or medications to be a huge distraction, and appreciate accuracy when possible. The only draw back here, and it exists with both series, is that there are sometimes annoying glitches in the DVDs themselves, something MGM really need to correct given the prices.

If you like Stargate SG1 series with Richard Dean Anderson (I sure did), will you like Stargate Atlantis? My opinion Atlantis Season one starts off slow, but the end of Season Two & into Season Three it get much better. Now I like it just as much as SG 1. I hope that the writers keep up their work with very good scripts

I've watched the series, off and on, from its inception. Having the whole thing on DVD has helped me catch up on the missed episodes. I like listening to the commentaries that the different actors have. It is interesting to see the episodes from their perspective. I would highly reccomend getting the series, if for no other reason than being able to see the shows without commercial interruptions.

I love Stargate SG1 and wanted to see if this spinoff was any good. So I bought the first season to see how it started. The price was right and the seller was prompt.

Initially, I had doubts as to whether I would be interested in a spin-off series based on Stargate SG:1, which is my favorite SCI-FI television series of all time. Could a spin-off ever match the original? However, Stargate: Atlantis pulled it off.

The First Season on DVD is a wonderful value. The sound and picture quality are incredible, especially on a widescreen TV at 1080i.

If you enjoyed the show, it's a must have.

finding it hard to find good family shows, this series gives one a relief from the workday and allows you to have a time to relax and not be caught up in everyday hustle . it also lets your imagination go a little wild and aslo captures you into the new world of Atlantis. the 40 minutes go way to fast.

If you are a Stargate SG-1 Fan, then Stargate Atlantis is for you. Good Stories, which are fun and funny and very likable characters, make for enjoyable viewing.

I saw a few episodes on sci fi and decided to buy the whole season. I loved all the episodes and can't wait to see season 2.

this tv show is great. it has action, humor, drama, really scary villains. a little bit of everything. the exposition is never boring. i'm not a sci fi chickie but i like this show because it's entertaining.

I WAS DISAPPOINTED ON THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I ACCIDENTLY BROUGHT 2 DVD. I ONLY WANTED ONE SO I EMAIL THE SELLER. HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO CANCELLED IT. WHEN I RECEIVED MY BANK STATEMENT I NOTICED MY TRANSACTION WAS TAKEN OUT FOR THE 2 DVD. HE TOLD ME DO YOU WANT 2 OF THEM OR NOT. FIRST YOU SAY NO AND THEN YOU SAY TO SEND THEM. MY REPLY WAS I ONLY WANTED ONE BUT YOU DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEMS. SINCE YOU TOOK MY PAYMENT OF 2 ATLANTIS SEASON ONE ALREADY. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO GET TWO OF THEM. I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY 2 DVD. IT BEEN SINCE ONE WEEK OF FEBRUARY. I ALREADY PAID FOR 2. THE PERSON THAT EMAIL HAS AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM. WHERE IS MY 2 DVD THAT I PAID FOR. CUSTOMER SERVICE REALLY STINKS!!!

I liked that fact that I didn't have to "Select Episode" again and again. The DVD played just like a movie, straight through. I love the series, so I wanted a copy of it.

I like that it was a new set of video's and not previously veiwed that was the reason for the purchase. The price was OK but it good have been better. Seller had very good communication skills and was not one to leave you hanging waiting for a response.

THE SERIES IS VERY ENTERTAINING AND KEEPS OUR INTEREST. WE OFTEN CHOOSE TO WATCH IT RATHER THAN REGULAR PROGRAMING. I'VE ALREADY RECEIVED SEASON 2 AND PLAN TO GET EACH ONE.

I like this show,I's really good...but I was very surprised by the packing of the dvds! Three cheap slim cases for the five dvds...all of them very fragile ....all suffered damage during shipping: center broken,will no longer hold the disc!All the dvds printed with the same image(picture)....slight difference in color:cheap! The picture & sound quality both look OK.
Not bad but I was expecting a better quality merchandise for my money!

The items was as descibed and I am a sucker for SciFi films. Doesn't really matter when and where they're set, if it looks like spiffy costuming and production values, hey, I'll be there. Stargate Atlantis, the stories are good, and at least I get happily amused for a while.

I really was into the SG-1 series but never really gave Atlantis a chance. Thought I would try it...loved it. Bought all 4 seasons and am avidly watching this season. Very well done and great characters. Rodney is the whiniest,most lovable scientist I have ever seen. The rest of the cast is also very engaging and interesting. If you liked SG-1, you will love this series, also.

the pilot ruined the first cd for mr but i really enjoyed the rest of the cds. i ordered 2 and 3 also

i like the show and the chanel dosen't show it anymore. buying it through ebay had no problems and got what was advertiesed. i will keep buying through ebay and selling untill i run out of things.

This is an excellent spinoff of Stargate SG-1. Since SG-1 is gone now, hopefully this will last for a while. There isn't much good sci-fi out there any more.

I purchased Stargate Season 1 recently and have watched every episode. Great graphics,intreging plots, lots of action. I like the packaging because the entire season is confined to 5 discs in a very compact slip case. It takes up less space than previous versions. Stargate fans will love this.

Atlantis is a little of everything, and has something for everyone. Exciting space battles, mystery plots, space vampires, snarky banter, attractive actors, and deep psychological, cultural, and political commentary, all in a package that hooks you quickly into its universe, and whose continued quality of episodes has only deepened its fan base over its four-season (season five starts today) run.
