Stardog Champion - Mother Love Bone

This is one of grunges foundation albums not to be compared to later artists and their contributions to the genre. Mother Love Bone have provided the listener with a wide range of hooks and tempos to get lost in. Whilst the production can be considered to be raw at times, this is the essence of what the genre is about, a turning away from over produced albums that can never be replicated in concert.
Stand out tracks on the album include : the original grunge anthem and album tittle track Stardog Champion, The hard rocking Holy Roller and the highly emotive Crown of Thorns. Whilst these are the stand out tracks they are still only elements of a greater whole.Unlike many albums this is a complete album with no fill in tracks to make up the numbers.
Many believe the death of Andy Wood provides this album with its status. The reality is a great sadness with Andy leaving the world only just starting his music journey. What he provides in this album is a window to a story that will forever will remain untold.
This is a fantastic album leaving you wanting more. The tragedy is that there will never be more.
