Republic Commando is a very good game I'd recommend whether you like Star Wars or not. The multiplayer game is great and under populated, but the single-player game is slick, polished, frantic, and exciting. The squad-based nature isn't revolutionary, nor is it as deep as "real" tactical games, but it's clean, easy to use, and doesn't slow things down. Add to that all the delicious details that LucasArts has crammed into every corner and you don't have many excuses not to enjoy it. Play this game get you really emerge in to the game. Your cloned brothers actually fell like your real bothers. You send so much time with them if game, it's really like their family. So it kind lonely went you get to missions you have to solo until you meat up with them again. Your bothers may all look alike but they all act different. One is funny, while the other is serious, while the last is just battle hungry. No matter what happens in the game you will always need your clone brothers either for support or a revival. The Clones are the best support AI I have ever seen in any game. And in most other title the AI is usually to stupid to help. Not the case here. Sev is a hard core hunter as, Fixer is just a funny man and scorch is the heart of the group. Learn your squad strength and weakness is what keep you alive in this game. "Republic Commando" is a game I can recommend for just about everyone. It's no Halo 2 killer but it give Halo 2 a good run for it's money. "Republic Commando" is just a lot of fun without those Jedi would be nice, however Jedis are in every star Wars game. And for once it is nice to not play a game with a jedi in it, or a Star wars game depended on a Jedi to be popular. RC is game play takes a way from the usual Jedi slash force play and concentrate on a lot of the grunt action. But who know, maybe in the future a jedi or two may be in part two. <Hint Hint> Place this game to the end and play it twice. The ending is unbelievable and it leave you wanting for more.

Well, this would be much of a review if I didn't talk about some of the weal points in the game. But no worries, there is just a few minor ones. One of the main problem in this game is that your weapons seem to lack a lot of punch. While the blaster is just average compared to the reaper and the shot gun, but most of the game you need your blaster rifle since you can adapted in to other weapon like a sniper fire and a anti-armor weapon. However weak the weapons are matters not because you have some "dam good" support in the game. Minor graphic errors, no big deal. I'm sure LucasArts has patched it by now, they usually stay on top of those things and if not it's doesn't hurt the game.

Over all I have to give the game two thumbs up despite it not being graphical superior to most game. However what it doesn't have in graphics it makes up in game play. Over all this game wins you over with superior game play and team work. A supper first person action shooter and a good multiplayer adventure.

Awesome game. Love the squad action. When first playing the game make sure you set the bit-mapping to low, in the options - graphics section, or the game may crash on first mission load screen. Other than that it's an awsome game.

My 7 year old son who is a Star Wars fan found out about this game, and asked me to find it. None of the stores I check had it, but I found it easily on ebay. The game does not have the best graphics, but he says it is fun and is satisified.

I bought it for my son who is a big star war fan. He is 9 years old and he loves it. I saw him playing it all the time.

The only problem I noticed is that I can't switch to other programs on my PC when he is playing the game. I tried to pause his game but I can’t get back to my desktop. I have to quit his game to use the computer. Then he has to start over again.

Better than expected! New view on franchise
Review created: 05/29/09

I have played many FPS games, definitely 50-100 in the last 10 years so I have some experience in the manner. This game is a little gem, a pleasant surprise to the bulk of current shooters out there in the market right now. No DRM is a plus!

In SW Republic Commando you take the role of a squad leader in a elite squad during the clone wars. You run all sorts of back story missions NOT shown in the movie. Clandestine ops, search and destroy missions, fighting in a wide variety of planets and terrain. You lead your AI squad through missions with a simple point and click interface that allows you to conduct simple strategic squad warfare. "Snipe from this position" "Blow that door" "Revive that squad member" are just a few examples of orders you can give to your AI squad mates. The AI wile simplistic but fairly realistic and the game does a excellent job of immersing you into the action of a elite commando team. The sound effects are definitely of the Star Wars cannon, the sound track surprisingly gorgeous for this little off-shoot title. The missions are pretty straightforward, making it difficult to get lost or stuck. The voice acting is done very well, with the developers putting effort into making your clone squad mates realistic and teem with a little life and personality. Kudos to the developer for making half-interesting squad mates.

The weapons are a wide variety of expected Star Wars weapons with a few twists added here and there, making the approach different if not fresh from the standard FPS perspective. You can use a several grenade types, the hud is simple but effective for monitoring your squad mates current location, health and tactical status.

While graphics cannot compare to the likes of Crysis and it's modern brethren, Star Wars Republic Commando can stand out with decent enough model types, good graphics, and it's small price tag. The system requirements are surprisingly low for a shooter of this grade, and I was surprised it ate up so few gigs, considering more modern games can now eat up 10-20 gigs each.

All in all I enjoyed the experience and would easily recommend it to Star Wars fans and First Person Shooter enthusiasts, simply based on it's creative approach to a sagging genre, and it's wallet friendly price. Despite the fact fans are split on the Clone Wars franchise, this title does add a fresh perspective without using a light sabre or force powers. It allows additional exploration of little known, or relatively unseen sections of the movies which fans often times appreciate.

If you are a hardcore realism shooter (IE - Call of Duty fanatic 4 & 5) you may find blaster weapons a bit of a change from a AK-47 and standard automatic weapons. The pace is still the same of the average FPS with fast paced sequences, some difficult bosses, and crescendo music during tense scenes to keep you gripped in your seat. For full retail price I might rate this as "good" but as shooters of this caliber (pun intended) deflate in price, my personal rating goes up as the low cost title can provide almost as much fun and graphical eye candy as the latest 50 or 60 dollar game so I chose to rate "excellent" especially since it has not bugged out, provided any display issues, hasn't locked up, or deactivated itself because I somehow insulted it's SecureROM policy.

If you ever wanted to be a storm trooper, then this title is for you. It gives you a first hand experience that is hard to forget and well worth the price tag.

  Nicely done
Review created: 05/06/09

Good game, nice wrap and delivery, good seller. The game has the touch of Star wars of course, but sometimes you feel that is so fast and the weapons doesn't work how they should do it (don't make so much damage on enemies) but the IA for his time(2005) I think is good. I'm love the games in old school package, that's why I miss the "size of the box"...

I bought this game because I had an action figure of one of the characters and I thought that this game would be cool. As it turns out, this game could very well be the best game EVER MADE. If you have Star Wars BattleFront for PC, this game comes very naturally to you. One thing that tricked me is the squad commands, they got from hard to very easy. this game came to me in about two days after I won it. Enjoy!

If youre a Star Wars fan, this game is for you. Lots of action, weapons, enemies, good music, things to shoot at...did I mention lots of action? Levels are huge and the game itself is a decent length. On top of all that, your fellow commandos that you control will have you laughing throughout the whole game. WHen it first came out, I thought it would be a dissapointment, and just recently got and finished the game. I should've gotten it alot sooner.

  Star Wars Game: Republic Commando
Review created: 05/26/08

My husband's birth day was coming up on Sunday, April, 20, 2008. Joe, my husband of 30 years, loved everything to do with Star Wars. No big deal, I'll get him a few more Star Wars PC games for his birthday. The only Star Wars game he had was Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. So I bought Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars Republic Commando for Joe. Then our troubles begin. What I forgot was that Battlefront II and Republic Commando were bigger and faster FC games made in 2004 by Lucas Arts. You have to install the Direct X 9.0c on your computer. Sure our computer is an Intel Pentium III but we had to unload over half of our programs to make room for the games. It felt strange to install the PC games to our DVD drive. Then a sign kept popping up saying we didn't have a 3D Graphics Card on our computer. We took our CPU into Computer Discount to have a GRAPHICS CARD wth Vertex Shader and Pixel Shader as well as Hardware Transform and Lighting Capability added to our computer. Since only one Star Wars PC game could go on our computer at a time, we tried to install Star Wars Battlefront II. We couldn't seem to get it to installed on our computer in the DVD drive. The game took up 4.0 of free space on the hard drive and was to big for our computer. The we installed Star Wars: Republic Commando to our computer. Since it was a smaller game and only took up 2.0 GB of free space on the hard drive it went on. Joe was happy with the more realistic movie quality of the game as well as the different weapons and more seniors. Nex year Joe wants a AMD Athlon computer for his birthday so he can play Star Wars Battlefront II.

  Republic Commando Rocks!
Review created: 02/15/08

Republic Commando + You buying it = Awsome Fun!!!!

Republic Commando is a really cool game, with you playing 1st Person view as a Commando, and you can completely control your own squad. Its a really good game.

The only two problems are that you can't turn on and off friendly fire in multiplayer and that there is lots of oil and posion that flies onto your screen when playing, and that can reduce your sight-in-game a lot.

Overall, I give it a 4.8, but EBay only allows 4 or 5, so I rouded to 5.

This is an awsome game! :)

  Short But Sweet
Review created: 02/08/08(updated 05/20/08)

Most games under the Star Wars umbrella have fallen short, exception to Knights Of The Old Republic Series and Battlefront, but Republic Commando is exceptional. The game keeps a rampant pace throughout with little down time. Nice weapons familiar with the Star Wars Universe are supplied to you to take out familiar Star Wars foes. To aide in your endeavor are three soldiers each with a unique skill: hacking, demolitions, and sniping. These soldiers are not your typical NPC and WILL lay down the law on opposing forces. Fun squad commands are available but presented to you in a dumbed down manner. Green holograms of where your soldiers can go to perform tasks are strewn throughout the battlefield, and are accessed simply by highlighting them and pressing ACTION. Even without commands your commandos operate efficiently and tactifully, as opposed to Halo where the NPC is essentially cannon fodder. This fact is particularly nice when your character is incapacitated, you don't die in the game you're only immobilized, and you can watch your squad decimate all threats before they even revive you. The only real complaint is the very short length of play which is about 10 hours. Still Republic Commando proves itself worthy to carry the Star Wars name.

Great Game thats any star wars fan will love.
Review created: 12/13/07
by:

This is a very good game. I have been playing for about one and a helf weeks now and can honestly say that I have enjoyed about 95% of my play time. It is a game that can stand on its own even without the Star Wars name. The Squad mechanics are a breeze to use and getting used to it is very simple. The Characters although not overly original are memorable. So far the missions have also had the right balance of challenge and suspense.

It isn't a game that over achieves what it set out to do, but it is still a very likable game. The few things could have been done better is more advanced squad commands for the gamer who loves experimenting with more advanced options. The weapons also don't seem to give that extra oomph.

I would recommend this title to any star wars fan or even a fan of squad based FPS's.
