Better than expected! New view on franchise

I have played many FPS games, definitely 50-100 in the last 10 years so I have some experience in the manner. This game is a little gem, a pleasant surprise to the bulk of current shooters out there in the market right now. No DRM is a plus!
In SW Republic Commando you take the role of a squad leader in a elite squad during the clone wars. You run all sorts of back story missions NOT shown in the movie. Clandestine ops, search and destroy missions, fighting in a wide variety of planets and terrain. You lead your AI squad through missions with a simple point and click interface that allows you to conduct simple strategic squad warfare. "Snipe from this position" "Blow that door" "Revive that squad member" are just a few examples of orders you can give to your AI squad mates. The AI wile simplistic but fairly realistic and the game does a excellent job of immersing you into the action of a elite commando team. The sound effects are definitely of the Star Wars cannon, the sound track surprisingly gorgeous for this little off-shoot title. The missions are pretty straightforward, making it difficult to get lost or stuck. The voice acting is done very well, with the developers putting effort into making your clone squad mates realistic and teem with a little life and personality. Kudos to the developer for making half-interesting squad mates.
The weapons are a wide variety of expected Star Wars weapons with a few twists added here and there, making the approach different if not fresh from the standard FPS perspective. You can use a several grenade types, the hud is simple but effective for monitoring your squad mates current location, health and tactical status.
While graphics cannot compare to the likes of Crysis and it's modern brethren, Star Wars Republic Commando can stand out with decent enough model types, good graphics, and it's small price tag. The system requirements are surprisingly low for a shooter of this grade, and I was surprised it ate up so few gigs, considering more modern games can now eat up 10-20 gigs each.
All in all I enjoyed the experience and would easily recommend it to Star Wars fans and First Person Shooter enthusiasts, simply based on it's creative approach to a sagging genre, and it's wallet friendly price. Despite the fact fans are split on the Clone Wars franchise, this title does add a fresh perspective without using a light sabre or force powers. It allows additional exploration of little known, or relatively unseen sections of the movies which fans often times appreciate.
If you are a hardcore realism shooter (IE - Call of Duty fanatic 4 & 5) you may find blaster weapons a bit of a change from a AK-47 and standard automatic weapons. The pace is still the same of the average FPS with fast paced sequences, some difficult bosses, and crescendo music during tense scenes to keep you gripped in your seat. For full retail price I might rate this as "good" but as shooters of this caliber (pun intended) deflate in price, my personal rating goes up as the low cost title can provide almost as much fun and graphical eye candy as the latest 50 or 60 dollar game so I chose to rate "excellent" especially since it has not bugged out, provided any display issues, hasn't locked up, or deactivated itself because I somehow insulted it's SecureROM policy.
If you ever wanted to be a storm trooper, then this title is for you. It gives you a first hand experience that is hard to forget and well worth the price tag.
