Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002, VHS)

Movie Description
In the second installment of the Star Wars series, EPISODE II--ATTACK OF THE CLONES, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is now a teenage Jedi apprentice to Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Together they must protect Senator Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman) from a militant group of political activists that is trying to assassinate her. This group is led by the evil Count Dooku (Christopher Lee). Among other troubles, Anakin faces some hard choices as he begins to fall for Padme, knowing this love is forbidden by the Jedi knights' creed. In addition, Anakin begins to show his rebellious attraction to the dark side--which will eventually conquer him, when he becomes the future Darth Vader.

The story is set 10 years after STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE, and there are appearances by some of PHANTOM's characters, including Jar Jar Binks. CLONES also brings back familiar faces from the original STAR WARS: the lovable droids R2D2 and C3PO, and Yoda, who plays a key role in this film. Lucas creates an impressive array of beautifully rendered alien planets and beings, sleek spaceships, and dazzling effects; he remains at the head of the class in terms of technical ability and visual imagination. The film's climactic final sequences show the magic with which CLONES' earns its place as part of the beloved STAR WARS series.

This movie shows you Anakin getting closer to fullfilling his destiny. You can see he is tired of holding back. Soon his destiny will be completed. Star Wars rocks again. A++++++++++++++++

The review of Docmonster from Doc Monster Labs
    Review created: 06/05/08
    by:

I loved the review of Docmonster from Doc Monster Labs, New Jersey. Here os is:
Excellent special effects! AOTC was certainly a site to behold with its sweeping landscapes, zooming vehicles and diverse alien races. It's truly a spectacle! With that being said, what happens when we look beyond the veneer of pretty pictures and bright shiny objects? To be blunt, not much!

As much as I loved the special effects, they were obviously there to hide the fact that there's nothing more to the film. It's like distracting an infant by jingling keys in front of them. The AOTC plot showed great promise, but it fell victim to a hackneyed script which didn't know where it was going or what it was doing when it finally got there. Most of this happens during the "build up" of Amidala's and Anakin's "love affair" in which there is no build up or real love affair involved. Jingle! Jingle! Look at the ocean swept world of Kamino! Doesn't it look awesome?! Slow pacing is also another of this film's greatest flaws. When a film is 2 hours and 20 minutes plus, pacing should be a real concern. Jingle! Jangle! Look at this! Isn't the "car" chase on Coruscant zippy?! Wow! Though a sophomoric script is mostly to blame, the acting came across as wooden and would have been better played by marionettes. It was imperative that Anakin "tell" us on a regular basis how bad he felt and how mad he was when actions would have been much better at driving the point home. The scene at the Tusken Raider camp would have been perfect for that, but it was cut far too short which leads me to believe that the Star Wars franchise has fallen out of the realm of General Audiences and is now the sole providence of children. Jingle! Jangle! Jingle! But check out the monsters in the arena! Don't they look scary?! Look at how the tiger-thingy rips Amidala's shirt just perfectly so we can see her bare tum-tum! Ooo-aaah!

If you love special effects, I suggest you catch a matinee of this movie. Much like Centropolis' "Godzilla", it's a wonder to behold. Also, much like Centropolis' "Godzilla", if you listen to your favorite tunes on your walkman while viewing AOTC, you won't miss a thing.

Star Wars Episode II - Attack of the Clones: Definitely What I Was Waiting For!
    Review created: 05/16/02
by: AliventiAsylum-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

    Pros:
great story, good cinematography, good acting, decent effects, respect for history

    Cons:
overuse of CGI, some parts were slow, a little long

This morning someone asked me what I was doing today. When I said I was heading out to see the new Star Wars film, I heard "Oh, you're one of them." Yes, I am one of them if them means someone who enjoys a movie that is an escape from reality with a good story, action and special effects. Attack of the Clones delivers in all of these areas. I was disappointed with The Phantom Menace but not to the point that I believed it to be a bad movie. I've just been used to getting more from a Star Wars film. I'm used to be dazzled and being blown away when I exit the theater. I want that WOW factor....

Attack Attack Attack of of of the the the Clones Clones Clones
    Review created: 05/09/03
    by: Rock_On -- a member of Epinions

    Pros:
special effects have been upgraded, Natalie Portman (ah cha cha!), Yoda!

    Cons:
love story sub-plot, Anakin whiney baby

Unfortunately, I was never able to see Attack of the Clones opening weekend because of a conflicting schedule, and had to wait until June to finally see it (and the theater was still packed to maximum capacity). When I did finally see it though, I felt a sense of redemption run through my body as even only through the first scene of the movie, it had already redeemed itself from the first movie. The Phantom Menace is by no means a bad movie, I mean it was very interesting what George Lucas did to continue the series (or re-continue?), but I was really let down in almost the whole movie except.

The Best Video Game Ever! 'Star Wars Episode II - Attack Of The Clones'
    Review created: 11/22/02
by: Vormancian -- a member of Epinions

    Pros:
    Shiny.

    Cons:
    Dull.

The first thing to get out of the way is that George Lucas is really a fine film-maker. That needs to be got out of the way right at the start, because I haven t had a good laugh in days. Fine, he had his little run, but it was far more because he came out with the right thing at the right time (and marketed the hell out of the whole affair), than anything to do with actually being good. I liked Star Wars fine, The Empire Strikes Back was actually pretty good, Return of the Jedi was alright. Could we maybe move on now? At the barest level, Attack of the Clones has a somewhat interesting plot..

Star Wars: Attack of the Clones - Adding Humor to the Mix
    Review created: 05/02/02
by: KCFemme -- a member of Epinions

    Pros:
    Storyline, answers questions, humor

    Cons:
More humor than expected in a Star Wars movie; Yoda's character is too agile.

This is published under video only because it is not located in the database under movies currently in theatres or coming soon. Today I got to see one of the movies I ve been waiting for. Yes, I know it is two weeks before its arrival in the theatres, but I was invited to a special showing. If you are here to find out all the details of the movie, you are going to be sorely disappointed because I m not one for spoiling the fun for others. On the other hand, there are many of you who are wanting to know whether or not Star Wars: Attack of the Clones is going to be a waste of money or worth...

Attack Of The Clones...or the cutting board
    Review created: 11/20/02
by: LifeStar -- a member of Epinions

    Pros:
Some extra footage, documentaries, minor changes to the movie

    Cons:
Realizing that this DVD and the movie could have been way better...

The Dark Side clouds everything So there I was, on Amazon.com when I realized that they were allowing people to pre-order the latest installment of the Star Wars Saga, Episode II: Attack of the Clones (AOTC). Another plus was since I ordered another item (like LOTR Platinum Edition), then I would get free shipping! So I did, and well I ve had some second thoughts to be honest. I ve been a closet fan of Star Wars ever since I was young. A closet fan because I was more into Star Trek back in the day, probably because I really enjoyed the TNG and DS9 storylines (Don t get me started on Voyager!).
