Star Trek - Fan Collective: Q
Review created: 01/13/09
by:

Q appeared in some episodes of DS9 and Voyager, but they were just weak crossover efforts, like when Archie Bunker appeared on The Jeffersons. It wasn’t natural and seemed more like a play to get TNG fans to sample Trek’s other incarnations. So fans of Q should pick up this collection, glad that a majority of the episodes are from TNG.

Disc 1: “TNG: Encounter at Farpoint”, “TNG: Hide and Q”, “TNG: Q Who?”.

Disc 2: “TNG: Deja Q”, “TNG: Qpid”, “TNG: True Q”, “DS9: Q-Less”.

Disc 3: “TNG: Tapestry”, “TNG: ...All Good Things”, “Voyager: Death Wish”.

Disc 4: “Voyager: The Q and the Grey”, “Voyager: Q2”

I’m a big Star Trek fan, but unless they drop from the sky, I won’t be owning the full run of TNG DVDs, because they’re too expensive (let alone Voyager, DS9 and Enterprise). That’s why I like these fan collectives: they satisfy any jones I may have for a show I love. Q contains mostly TNG episodes, which makes it even more of a deal. Video quality is fair and extras are limited to some text commentaries.

  Fan Collective Supreme
Review created: 10/06/07

Being a fan of Star Trek , this collection is a must have . Beyond being a trek fan, this collective introduces you to the most formidable of all beings or possible beings ! This collection shows the expanse and power of the "Q" continuum , while also showing us the weaker side of such a possible being . The very first story, kind of sums up all we hope the future to be , while showing us our own ugly side , and humanity may be wonderful in many aspects, but these stories remind us of just how horrible, and savage mankind has the potential to be as well ! A must have for Star Trek fans , a very interesting addition to any science fiction collection . I purchased this item because I am a star trek fan, and moreso, a fan of the entity known as "Q" !

  Ah, the inimitable Q!!

This was an awesome collection. Q was, and always will be, the most astounding character the came out of "Star Trek". John de Lancie breathed amazing life to a character that was both loved and reviled at the same time.
In "Encounter At Farpoint", he started out to be a serious threat to Captain Picard and the crew of U.S.S. Enterprise, (even to the whole Federation), buy putting them on tial for the crimes of humanity. In "Q Who?", He literally threw the Enterprise into the path of the Borg. This action may very well have been a favor in disguise. Q's actions allowed the Federation to learn about, and attempt to prepare themselves against a universal threat that would decimated the Alpha Quadrant. He evolved from an all-knowing, omnipotent, god-like being to a practical joking imp, and pain in Picard's back side. The one down side to this collection would have to be "Hide And Q", which he bestowed Commander Riker with the power of Q. It was just a horrible episode, in my opinion. On the other hand, the best Q episode by far, in my opinion, was "Deja Q", when Q shows up aboard the Enterprise stripped of his powers by the Q Continuum. Much to the annoyance of Captain Picard. The scene where Q finally is given his powers back, and grants Data the gift of his first belly laugh, is worth the price of the whole set.
He was an even bigger pain in Captain Janeway's back side with his subsequent appearances in "Deathwish" when he attempted to stop another member of the Q Continuum from trying to commit suicide. "The Q And The Grey", which threw Janeway and the U.S.S. Voyager in the middle of a Q civil war. And "Q2", where Janeway was forced to play the role of surrogate mother to Q's omnipotent brat, Q, Jr. This was one of my favorites among the "Fan Collective" sets.

Star Trek - Fan Collective: Q

I enjoyed this collection of episodes due to the fact that they dealt with more mental problem solving scenarios where human potential and the divine latent gifts are being aroused by a group of beings who are curious and somewhat afraid of the mankind's growth to evolve into a race that far succeeds the "Q" one day .....soon.
