Considering how long these people have been at it, you would think that they would have corrected everything by now, the years on the coins increase in one way, then they head the other direction, the pics of the coins, some of which are wrong, the russian section is a disaster. Any page! look at the warsaw roubles, it is not warsaw! Varieties are not listed, the only thing the book has is just a low price. Has useful information such as mintages and "past" prices, because even the prices are way off. This is a good first book.

19th Century Price Guide Works Wonders

I bought this book slightly used for about half the retail price and am very satisfied with it. I am able to look up the occasional foreign coin from the 19th Century without any problems. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a deal and trying to save a buck on expensive Catalogs. The newest Catalogs out from Krause come with CD's, I'm not sure what they do, but take a look at the new ones if you have the money. I feel that constantly updating your Catalogs is not necessary. Just having an old Catalog to use will suffice, unless you have something in the "higher" price range, which you should take to a dealer for another grade opinion and price.

This reference book is the best for identification of world coins during the 100 year period above. it also gives valuble information concerning how to grade and price coins.
The history of the countrys is also given and many times is more relavent than many history books for a accurate snapshot of rulers and events that influenced coinage.
I purchased the book to assist my collecting and identification of world coins.
It has proven itself time and time again as invaluble to me.
James Edward Murdock.

  Great book for research purposes

I do not know what Piza is talking about, maybe because I do not collect neither Polish nor Russian coins. I am not saying he is wrong but I have found this book invaluable in my 36 years of collecting world coins. It lists overdates, varieties, and mintages. Has pictures for easy identification and is formatted to make research quick and easy. I can honestly say that I have never found any mistakes and I have been using different editions for 36 years. You cannot be a savvy world coin collector without it. True prices are overinflated, but so is any other coin book with fixed price lists, eg., Red, Blue, and Black books. Its value lies in the data it gives you for each coin series each country has ever made, eg., dates minted, mintages, varieties, etc. You can find books that are more comprenhensive when they are dedicated to individual countries or individual empires, but you cannot get a better book that is a World Coin book for all countries.
