Stalingrad (DVD, 1998)

The movie was excellent, very accurate, much like a German Saving Private Ryan.
The purchase was very smooth and the item was received in good condition.
I decided to buy this movie for my son as it added to his collection of war movies. Very good purchase and very good flick.

This is a great movie if you can enjoy a Euro style movie.....and what I mean is that you need to expect something different than Hollywood puts out. It uses a lot of authentic equipment and vehicles.....so be prepaired to enjoy this as well.......something Hollywierd usually doesn't pay much attention to. This movie may very well have inspired an American version of real-ism in Saving Private Ryan.

A telling of one of history's most costly battles brought to life and presented to the viewer thru german perspective. Stalingrad briliantly attempts to capture the very harsh reality of the conditions and pit-falls faced by an under equiped extension of the war machine known as the third reich during the brutal arctic winter of the former soviet union. Stalingrad captures the viewer, placing them in a small unit of german soldiers, allowing them to bond with the human traits and personalities of each individual of said unit. Directed to perfection, Stalingrad is a first of it's kind.

A good movie detailing the suffering and misery endured by both sides during this costly battle. Well worth the admission price of ownership...BUY IT!!! You'll watch it more than once and then be off to E Bay to find the Stalingrad documentary DVD and the book Voices of Stalingrad.

Stalingrad seemed, an attempt to make Russians look good at the expense of making Germans look bad. A 'sell out' made to 'sell' to Russia not Germany.
Historically totally inacurate. And after seeing it once, I may never watch it again.

I say one of top 5 war movies, watch in german 1st time and then watch it in english.
The tank scene is awsome, and the authentic equipment & vehicles makes the movie a classic.

lIKED THE MOVIE VERY REALISTIC,SHOWS THE TRUE NATURE OF THE CONFLICT AND THE SENSLESS NATURE OF WAR. tHIS MOVIE IS IN gERMAN WITH ENGLISH SUB TITLES BUT ITS NOT HARD TO FOLLOW AT ALL...mOST PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERSETED IN wORLD wAR 2 WILL FIND THIS INTERSETING SHOWING THE GERMAN SIDE OF THE CONFLICT.

Great WW2 Movie. Best watched in the original German dialog.

I really liked this movie. Truely an antiwar movie that shows the absolute travesty of war. The thing that I liked most was that it showed a human face to both Russian and German. Rather than glorifying war, perpetuating rasism and hatred it shows the true face of human nature in war. There should be no glory in war only shame, inhumanity and dishonor. If you want to hate, be vengfull and feel like a hero for killing a specific race than I would suggest Speilberg. That point aside everything else about the movie is top notch. The cast is awesome with superb acting. The visuals are stunning. The movie flows along perfect with out a single dull moment. On a scale of 1 to 10, which I give no movie a 10 as of yet, I give this movie 8&1/2 stars. It would get a 9 if it had an awesome soundtrack. That would be my only complaint. Where's the Music ?

Overall this is a good first-person style movie about a german squad in stalingrad. It follows them through the whole battle and their struggle against the russians, the elements, and eventually even their own officers.

All in all a good film, but does seem abridged in many places. Do not expect a happy ending from this film. It evokes the brutality and pointlessness that was Stalingrad exceedingly well.

I am interested in this time period in world history, as is my 16 year old son. Together, we have delved into many aspects of this great war of Europe and the Pacific.

We are more interested in the WWII of Europe and this movie tales the story of one of Hitler's greatest military blunders. This movie is so powerful, that I dare say it is moving in it's depth and scope. The feeling of utter desperation is well played. The loss of comrades and the despair over being left to the hands of a feared enemy is not lost on the viewer.

If you soul does not shiver and your heart not ache from this film, I would venture a guess you are dead.

Wonderfully acted and extremely well directed. A tribute to the men and women of the time in a place called Stalingrad.

Really hits the mark about the horrors everyone faced in that God-awful battle. Doesn't pass blame or tell any one-sided stories. This is a must have for any war movie collection.

We all know about Stalingrad and World War 2 and how it turned out but its nice to see the other side represented ESPECIALLY with Stalingrad.
The German soldiers at Stalingrad were as much betrayed as the Russians but you dont hear that much about it. Seems nobody wants to represent Hitler in a film even in the form of talking about the soldiers of the Third Reich. This film gives you a good balance when combined with Enemy at the Gates.
Enjoy, highly recomended for viewing....but only real buffs will want it in their collection.

This guy made Dos Boot. WW2 Movie. Germans & Russian fighting with tanks and MG's and one hot Russian chick with her own spoon.....What more needs to be said????????
