Stahlhelm, Evolution of the German Steel Helmet

Excellent information on German helmets from 1916 to 2000; great sketches and diagrams. Interesting reading; not "dry" or tedious at all. Appendix has a photographic presentation of all German steel helmets (including Luftschutz, police, fire, etc.)with a concentration on the 1916-1945 era.
If the book were available in hardback, I would gladly have paid a little more.
On the down side, however, the photographs are of poor quality (or the reproduction of them in black and white from this publisher); the book paper is typical "paperback" stock, which will turn brown in a few years (photos do not look good on this kind of paper). Originally published in 1970 and updated/revised in 2000, the book could be enhanced with a third revision by going to acid-free paper, hard back binding/cover, lots more photographs (and color), more information on post-war helmets (both East and west German)and some more information on factories, production, etc. There may already be books on the market that cover these extras, though. I bought mine on Ebay on a "buy it now" listing from Buy.com for only $12.95, which is $5.00 less than anywhere else I've seen. If a title is only available in paperback, I'll sometimes purchase it, but hardback is the way to go, especially for a reference book. --Mike Doerner (ColonialMikeD on Ebay)
