Japanese import with one bonus track. Despite coming from a Christian music background, Stacie Orrico makes a full-fledged splash into the secular world with a self-titled album that puts her squarely amongst the Mandy Moores and Jessica Simpsons of the teen pop world. Like her secular sisters, Orrico has a big voice that fits hand-in-glove with the dance-pop template of this outing. The big difference is that this talented 16-year-old co-wrote a good percentage of these songs, which deal with weightier matters like the idea of life after death (the acoustic guitar-mottled "Hesitation") and spiritual beliefs (the soaring "Strong Enough"). Even Orrico's breakout single "Stuck" does an impressive job of intelligently addressing heartbreak in a way that's struck a chord with teenage girls everywhere. Reminiscent of Janet Jackson's finer moments, STACIE ORRICO is packed with a fusion of hard-hitting beats and well-written lyrics that are harbingers of greater things to come for this sharp pop idol.
