I want to say I really love this phone. I like it because I can do my Ebaying from it. When I close my store I recieve my emails, and check my auctions from anywhere. I know some are saying or thinking, you can do email from a Blackberry or Palm devices. True, but the difference is you see full blown websites and can check prices on items you wish to sell or make sure that you priced your item at the right price. Often times you get ideas or things you want to check when you aren't in front of a computer. And the downloads are at very fast speeds. Evdo is awesome. I hate waiting. I've had dang near every PDA that has come out including the Treo 650. I took that back because it wouldn't allow me to go to my Paypal account! I get alot of emails they would always freeze up, and after taking two Treo's back to the Sprint store I said that's it . The 6700 is nearly the same size, the only thing that I miss on the Treo was the one handed use. Other than that I love this phone. I guess for a light user the Treo is perfect. But for a heavy user that utilizes multi tasking this is the machine to get. I was a long time Palm user from day one, and was very reluctant to do Pocket PC. For a SERIOUS user this is the phone. For a lighter user I would recommend the Treo 650. Hope this review helps because I had to go through trial and error in order to make a decision. I tried to be impartial so you can make the right choice. Good luck!

PPC-6700 Great for On Road Email, Web, Word and More!
Review created: 06/02/06

Having been a user of both the Treo 650 and Sprint’s PPC-6700, which phone is best is hard decision. They both have their good points.

But as this review is about the PPC-6700, I will stick as much as I can to discussing it. First off it has a hefty price at about $395 - $450 Street at the time of this writing. But then it gives you a lot of bang for the buck. It is a loaded Pocket PC PDA using the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform while being a full featured Sprint PCS cell phone.

It has a 416 MHz processor, 128 Megs of flash ROM, a mini-SD card slot, 1.3 mega pixel camera and supports both 1xRTT and EV-DO.

The Sprint PPC-6700 is not razor thin, but then when placed side by side with my Treo 650 they are just about the same size. The PPC-6700 is slightly thicker, but it also has a nifty slide-out keyboard that I really enjoy. Slide it out and the screen becomes a wide screen.

Sure it is a bit heavier than many phones on the market today, but it is also a lot of faster. If you only need limited web access you can take this puppy with you to the airport and leave the laptop at home. It can sync up your contacts, your word doc and your excel files. A lot more too, but then those are the programs I use and I have no problems using them. I have been fortunate not to experience any nasty crashes which sometimes plagued other phones I have use. But again…let me reiterate this phone.

It works great for staying on top of email while on the road. And this is important to me. It makes my life much nicer as I am on the road quite a bit.

Now for the downside. The camera is so, so…but come on…do you really buy a phone for the camera? If you need a camera there are plenty of small good digitals on the market. If you want a camera just in case, this phone has it and the photos are OK. They won’t win you any awards.

The bad… good luck using this in sunlight. Oh sure I had heard others remark that the screen was difficult to see, but I thought it couldn’t be worse than other led devices…not so. This is terribly frustrating to try to see when you have a call coming in or a call going out. A lot of people have received surprise calls from me because I couldn’t see what I was doing. I have learned to hide the phone from the light under a tote or backpack and then the phone and I get along just fine.

Would I buy this phone again? Absolutely. I love it.

Of course being that I sell RAM I would recommend everyone that has this phone to get a 2GB MiniSD Flash Memory Card.

But even if you don’t get the RAM, do consider the phone. Sprint offers a 30-day money back guarantee. There is no way I would return mine….If you get one you just might keep yours too!

  Smartphones are they smart?
Review created: 05/25/08

This is an amazing piece of technology. I have had computers in the past that could not do what my phone does. But with any piece of technology you have things that are great and things that are are horrible. First we will cover the negatives about this phone, (just to get them out of the way)

1) the weight of the phone is more than I expected.
2) the phones camera is not very good for taking indoor pictures.
3) the signal strength for the phone is very poor. I have had better signal
reception with my older phones than this one.
4) the side buttons are too easy to hit by mistake and drains battery life
while it is in the pouch, or while you are using it.
5) battery door cover falls off too easily.
6) the regular battery does not last long enough if you are a power user of
the phones features.
7) the bluetooth tends to not work properly when you have too many programs
open that have not been fully shut down.

Now those were some basic negatives that the end user faces, however the power users will find that there are other negatives to this phone that are not addressed, (mostly because of the fact there are not as many people out there that are developers of software or business application users of this product as there of average people who just like the convenience of having everything in one unit. Sorry folks.

Here are all of the things I llike ad love about this phone. There are soe out there that have fallen in love with the HTC Mogul, but the PPC6700 can be upgraded to use the same software as the mogul and I am using it on my PPC6700. It came to me upgraded with that software, but I have two of these phones so I upgraded the other one too. Here are my likes and loves of this phone:

1) Design of the phone is excelent. (I love the weight but my other half hates
the weight.)
2) the ease of use of the touch point screen is so convenient for me when I am
out and about that I will never go back to a flip phone again.
3) the active sync with my computer makes my life so much easier to manage my
time and my money and my use of assets while working. I can come home drop
it in it's cradle and i'm done, the computer automatically does the rest.
(you have to setup what you want to sync with the computer but it is fairly
easy to do and is a life saver when you need to keep track of your daily
tasks, you can stay on track.)
4) if you like to listen to music but hate to be tethered to your mp3 player,
you can listen to your muisc with a bluetooth stereo headset. (works great.
just be mindful of all of the programs you have opened up at the time you
are playing music)
5) the expandable memory slot is just great and a must have for this phone. You
can do so much with that extra memory.
6) now the programing is really great but make sure you only load in software
meant for this OS, or you will regret it. It works great but is unforgiving
to mistakes.
7) the large tft matrix screen is great too. I have watched movies on my phone
and they look amazing. (get a bigger battery though)
8) did I mention the wifi? I love that. I service my clients computer problems
while on the road using the remote desktop feature while on wifi. (the
remote desktop feature is for experienced users though)
9) The overall ease of use and functionality of this product is great and will
so much that most people will never maximize it's potential.

Enjoy!!!

Phone is fantastic. Love the touch-screen characterisitics, option of full Keyboard, bluetooth communications, built in WIFI/Wireless, IE browsing, etc.
The only thing I am a little disappointed in is the screen is a bit difficult to see in bright sunlight. Other than that, I absolutely love all of the features in this phone/pda.

I like the phone. it has a lot of neat features with it. Little too techy for me but I'll get use to it (reading manual). Only thing is I thought it had gps but can't find that in it, but that's ok. ordered a gps bluetooth device that goes on the car keys so I'll be fine. Love it.

PPC 6700 from Sprint, fast and fun to use
Review created: 01/01/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased the ppc 6700 off of ebay because Sprint in it's infinite wisdom decides to only allow phone models up for sale for approximately 6 months. So with that in mind I found that the ppc 6700 from Sprint offered me exactly what I wanted; cheap data plan versus the other cell phone companies, and wi fi built in card on a pc phone. I have used about every function that this phone has, except the excel and various microsoft programs that come along with the phone for buisness personel to utilize this pc phone to save the day somehow, but I feel that's a bunch of crap. The only flaws with this phone is there is very little ram internally. That is no large amount of internal memory, this becomes a problem when installing programs on your phone, the phone offers a micro sd card slot, which allows you to expand the storage capacity up to 4gb. But the internal memory is limited to 56mb, which is quickly eaten up by the 1. running programs and 2. stored programs. So I have found myself limiting the amount of programs, cookies from the internet, and pictures/videos I take and deleting them or moving them to the sd card accordingly. The only other gripe I have is the internet, certain website will not display correctly, this is due to the version of windows mobile installed, (which you can not update like your computers' os), The camera/camcorder function work well, however you need to make sure that you download the rom update from sprint to improve many functions of the phone. The slides out key board is nice, but somewhat difficult to manipulate, so it will take you time to get used to it. The brand band speed of the evdo network is what made me purchase this phone, I can download web pages and files from the internet as fast as I would at home, but that has a direct impact on the battery, so always buy another battery or charger. The ppc 6700 is definately not the i phone, but it offers everything that you want or get from the i phone, mp3 player, internet, email, camera, wi fi, (which works almost identical to windows xp so there's nothing you really have to learn to set it up). I like this phone alot, make sure you get the insurance for it though. It's 399.00 + for a replacement. good luck and happy ebaying.

I bought the phone at least a year ago. I bought it because it also allowed me to use it as a modem for my laptop when on the go. I am a Realtor. About a month ago, our local MLS decided to change our lockboxes on homes to an infrared system. I was pleased that they were supporting my 6700 with this. I now get to carry one less item with me when showing properties. I love the internet access and the qwerty keyboard when composing emails. I know this will also handle my mp3s and other media - I just haven't had time to setup it all up. I do use a blue tooth headset with it and its awesome, great handsfree on the go. I also love that it runs a windows operating system, I open word, excel and ppt files. I would highly recommend this item if you are always on the go and need quick easy COMPACT access to the web and email.

tHE NEXT BEST THING FROM SPRINT
Review created: 08/16/06
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Good things come in innovative shapes and sizes— witness the PPC-6700 Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone from Sprint. We've seen slider keyboards before, but this is the first that slides from the side rather than bottom of the phone, making it perfect for landscape use. Not only that, the keyboard is excellent, better than the chicklet keys found on other QWERTY keyboard smartphones and in fact better than the GSM version of this phone.

The PPC-6700 is both a full-featured Pocket PC PDA running Windows Mobile 5.0 and a Sprint PCS cell phone. It replaces the much larger and somewhat crankier Audiovox PPC-6600 which featured a standard slider keyboard design. The PPC-6700 is sold under the Audiovox (owned by UTStarcom) brand and was designed and manufactured by HTC in Taiwan, currently one of the most innovative and prolific Windows Mobile phone ODMs. It has a 416 MHz processor, 128 megs of flash ROM, a mini-SD card slot, 1.3 megapixel camera and supports both 1xRTT and EVDO. This was the first Windows Mobile 5 phone to hit the US market and was offered exclusively by Sprint PCS until Jan. 2006 when Verizon began offering their version, the XV6700.

IN THE BOX:
The PPC-6700 comes with a Lithium Ion battery, two styli, cradle, USB to mini-USB sync cable, world charger, stereo headset with mic, leather horizontal case with belt clip, software CD and a thick printed manual. One thing we particularly like is the PPC-6700's single mini-USB port. You can plug the charger or sync cable directly into the device and need not take the cradle with you on the road. Of course you can plug both the cable and charger into the two ports on the rear of the cradle when at home or work.

CONCLUSION:
A great looking and ergonomic device with a creative design that works. The roomy keyboard and large domed keys will be the sweetheart of email and IM addicts. It's compact, runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and has EVDO- sweet! WiFi and Bluetooth will please power users and those not in Sprint's EVDO coverage areas. Call quality and clarity are good, even with poor coverage and beat the Samsung i730 which sometimes has choppy (though louder) incoming audio and too quiet outgoing audio.

Pro: Fantastic keyboard! Very compact, albeit a bit thick, attractive and innovative design. Nice screen, runs the latest Windows Mobile OS and has both WiFi and Bluetooth. Camera still shots are very good by phone standards. Sprint's $15 Vision (you'll get EVDO speeds if in a covered area) is an amazing deal.

Con: Mediocre phone reception. Though call quality remained good even with one bar, EVDO speeds were halved. Speakerphone isn't very loud, nor are ringtones. Small amount of built-in storage available to the user. Uses miniSD cards, so PPC veterans will have to invest in new cards.

This is an awesome phone. All functions work great! The email is nice. The web browsing is nice, even though you have to scroll - it loads very fast and loads all images...just as you see them on the desktop. The popout keyboard is really much more convenient then scrolling thru the letters when sending email or texting. I had a blackberry and had to take it back since it lacked a lot of functions that are available on this phone. My provider is Alltel (instead of Sprint). I really love this phone for ebay-I check my auctions while waiting in line at the post office and it is nice to know what is happening. If I had to complain...my only complaint would be that it is hard to dial the phone while driving. I am going to look into bluetooth and voice command and that should solve the problem. Everyday I find a new feature on this phone and I would suggest this phone to anyone thinking about it. I used to have a pocket PC when they first came out, but it was too much to carry around, it is nice to have the full functionality again but all in my phone.
