Short, violent, and dramatic -- Great Anime, poor plot

"Spriggan" comes from a manga series (titled 'Striker' here in the US), which was originally a black and white title based on a teenager in Japan (Yu Ominae)who becomes part of a secret organization (ARCAM) that spends time searching for and either destroying or quarantining advanced technologies from previous civilizations to prevent their destructive force or use by current, less noble leaders and organizations -- a far stretch, I know, but in today's uber-technological society it strikes a chord. If you never read the manga, you'll be lost for the first 30 minutes or so...and even then, it rushes so quickly headlong into the climactic conflict between the 'good' ARCAM and the 'bad' Machine Corps (a traditional if now tiresome comparison sometimes common in such features that a Western military organization is ultimately corrupt, manipulated by corporate masters, and it takes the kick-ass Japanese secret PSEUDO-militaristic society with more lofty ideals to bring it down a peg or two...and give a not very subtle reference to the previous use of Atomic weapons on Japan) that you find yourself going 'huh?'.
In other words, if you can stand to wait to rent it or catch it on the occasional showing on an Anime channel, you'll probably get enough after one or two showings to wish that they'd taken more time, tried a couple of episodes, or SOMETHING so a total newcomer could figure out what the heck is going on and why a Biblical icon like the Ark gets involved. A good deal for the price if you like the music and want to expand your anime collection, otherwise check the Manga series for more background.
