Spirited Away (DVD, 2003, 2-Disc Set)

I love this film.. the animation and the plot where simply marvolous... You must watch this fil.. I think its Miyasaki's best film...

There are anime, then there is Hayao Miyasaki. Spirited Away is everything that a Hayao Miyasaki work should be, superbly and stylishly animated with a story and environment that is imaginative and engrossing. What more is that this isn't just a anime for small children, seeing that is what most people are led to believe when thinking about animation. In fact, Hayao Miyasaki's work are often quite complex, partly due to the mythological theme that it contains and because of this, his work often appeal to older audiences.

It is a touching story of a young girl named Chihiro, who is on the road moving to a new home with her parents. On the way, they stopped at a deserted village, and soon after her parents dissapeared and Chihiro was alone. Soon creatures and spirits starts appearing in the village, and the only way she can find her parents is by sacrificing her name and losing her identity by starting in the village and working at a bathhouse... Through Chihiro, Miyasaki told a story that teaches us that our actions carry concequences and also the sprit of being able to face challenges and find the inner strength to conquer.

This film is indeed a wonderful fairytale that can only exist in the mind of Miyasaki, so its no wonder that Disney dubbed it and brought it to the US. However, my personal opinion is that you should watch it in Japanese with Subtitles, in it's original format.

Daughter is on her 3rd copy of this wonderful movie and has loved it for years. Storyline, artwork and overall presentation is just enchanting. You can't go wrong with anything by this wonderful director!

Spirited Away is by far the most magical movies I've ever seen, and probably Miyazaki's best film. Young Chihiro (a girl who complains about absolutly everything) must learn to accept her fate and follow her heart to save her parents from Yubaba, a witch who has turned them into pigs and trapped Chihiro in this magical world. It is absolutly breathtaking and great for ANY age. My daughter loved it at age four and even my mom loves it. If you are looking for a great film to enjoy with the whole family, look no further.

My friends son kept talking about how much he wanted this movie for his birthday. I looked in many stores and just couldn't find it. I then tried Ebay and there it was. I was so excited when I won the bid and was able to give him what he truely wanted for his birthday. Ebay is great in the fact that you will find things you can't any where else! Thanks Ebay!

Spirited Away is another brilliant masterpeice by acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki. The imagination and creativity found in this film is absent amongst most other animated films. If you enjoyed this film you should see Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle.

Compared to the animated films available to American audiences these days, this move is a real treat! The animation is beautiful, the story line (although it is the typical 'kid has to rescue dumb parents) was good enough to keep us all interested, the music was lovely and almost haunting at times, and the characters were cleverly created and likable. Everything about this film is so imaginative, and any characters that would be scary for some younger children are not at all menacing (like some Disney films). It's one DVD you will enjoy over and over.

Spirited Away is a captivating and artisically beautiful movie. I'm guessing you've read the synopsis and know the basic plot of the movie- that a whiny little brat of a girl, Chihiro, gets magically whisked away to the spirit world, where she must face many new challenges that ultimately change her into a strong, confident young woman. It's amazing to watch her grow with each new experience.

Besides the plot, what makes this movie an instant favorite with me is the amazing amount of creativity and detail that goes into the animation of each of the characters, especially the spirits visiting the bath house. Miyazaki's team, as usual, brings the seemingly two dimensional characters to brilliant life and the images are always memorable.

I highly recommend this movie to all ages. Although its animation style may make parents think it is a children's movie, I would actually advise against showing this to very young ones, as some of the characters (like 3 heads rolling around on the ground) might be frightening, and the plot may be difficult for them to understand. Likewise, adults may shy away from watching "a cartoon," but in my own personal viewings, I've seen skeptical adults (my parents, for example) be drawn in, their eyes glued to the screen, within the first 30 minutes. As my final seal of approval for Spirited Away: my dad, a 50-something retiree, always falls asleep in movies, but he stayed awake all the way through this one.

This movie is honestly one of the best movies ever made. It's about a whiney little girl (who very much reminds me of my 9 yr old daughter) who finds her independence after her parents are cursed. This cartoon is just beautiful. It's one of those movies where once you start watching it, you can't stop. We have had to buy it twice because my kids wore out the first DVD.

This is one of the best Anime type films I have ever seen...It is appropriate and enjoyable by any age group. If you are new to Anime and are looking for a good starter movie then pick this one!

I had this DVD before and loved it, but someone borrowed it and forgot to return it. Was very happy to get a replacement on eBay.

I bought this dvd because I have always admired the work of Studio Ghibli. I find the animation entertaining and well made. This film features adventure and touching moments and I like that. It can also be a little scary in some places which I can't say that I enjoy. Aside from scary scenes, I find this film quite enjoyable and I am glad I bought it. It was a pleasure doing business with the seller.

I love the animation, and the story is wonderfully done. I have owned this before and have lost it so I wanted it back for my collection. It is a must have for any dvd collection!

Another fine film by Miyazaki. He is one of the finer animators to produce movies. His stories are excellent and Spirited Away is one of his better products. The movies is entertaining and is excellent for both children and for adults.

I decided to buy this because my girlfriend has many of the writers other movies and they are great. This movie is definitely one of the ones that you want to own if you are not buying all of miyazaki's (spelling?) movies. There really hasn't been one yet that I've disliked.
It's good to watch with the kids or just on your own.

This movies animation is mesmerizing! It truly is a visual treat for anyone who enjoys top notch animation! The story to this movie is very imaginative as well although some little kids might find some of the images a bit to strange and frightening. Still, it's a great film!
