Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy (PlayStation 2, 2003)

At first I didn't like this game...but after 1/2 hour I realized how phenomenal it really is. Everything is great...graphics, special effects, puzzles, gameplay, level design...they got everything right with this one. And the levels you play as the mummy are friggin' hilarious. I used to set him on fire just for fun...good stuff.

I bought this game for my son years ago in the mall. I liked the graphics on the box, and the description made it sound like it would be great fun to play. I got hooked! This game is fantastic! It has cool graphics (love Egyptian themes), it has comedy, and it has amazing situations. I couldn't wait to solve one place and go to another. You have to really get your puzzler working in some areas, but once you figure out what or how you need to do it, then it is just a matter of time to get it done. My son has beaten the game twice and even finished playing mine. I haven't played it in a long while, but I need to get back to it. You will love it!!!!!!!1

awesome game! Was an early present for my husband for Christmas.The game is challenging and requires a unique approach at problem solving to advance in teh levels. Entertainment for hours!

Typical adventure game. Go here, do this, this happens, repeat. The mummy is fun to play because he's a little silly and you get to light him on fire repeatedly (he's dead so you can't die when you play him.) This is a great game for a smart kid or a mildly lazy adult. The puzzles are pretty easy to figure out and mostly their fun to do. Fighting as Sphinx is very challenging in some of the areas especially when rescuing 'Cry Baby's' wife. We bought the guide and only used it once to find one piece of Ankh (four pieces give you another life point). We wanted to face the final boss with maximum life. If you like Jak & Daxter (our favorite) you may enjoy this. It's way easier and shorter, but funny and fun.

Animation is great, alot of moving between levels it is exciting to watch and it seems to keep the children entertained

I own a PS3, and this PS2 game smokes most of the newer games for quality.

Just enough story to hang a game upon without being ridiculous (no Final Fantasy 20 minute cutscenes that bring the game to a screeching halt) and the design elements are inspired.

Playing as two separate characters - each with their own unique talents and weaknesses - really puts this game over the top. Sphinx rocks, especially with the jump and speed increases. The mummy...well, the fact that he cannot die leads to several unique gameplay situations. On fire? Charged with electricity? Flattened? Chopped in three? NO PROBLEM. Situation normal!

All around fun game.

This game is wonderful. The story, the graphics, the game play. Everything flows smoothly from one thing to the next. I started up the game and expected mediocrity because of it's creation date but, I was pleasantly surprised. The first thing you notice is the detail in the characters. The way they move, transitioning from one animation to the next flawlessly. There colors, there expressions. Everything was thought out magnificently. I expected voice acting but only got Subtle emotional effects like laughter, crying, etc. This actually enhanced the characters even more than voice acting, I thought. The backgrounds were equally pleasant. Huge environments with tons of detail. The water, realistic and the buildings blended in splendidly with the games theme. The story starts out weak but gets a lot better as you progress, especially when you discover the other character you will be playing as, a mummy who catches fire, get's cut into three, and emits electricity. All of this is part of the game play and hilarious. Ok, I am not a review writer but to end it, GREAT GAME AND well worth the BUY!

I was looking for a fun game to play with my husband, who loves video games. I wanted a game that was not too graphic with violence. Even though this is a one-player game we still have a lot of fun playing this together. We take turns being the characters, which are the Mummy and the Sphinx. This game really makes you think to solve the puzzles, which I love and still gives you the battles that my husband likes. If you are new to gaming like me this is a good one to learn the controls as it give on screen helps on which buttons to use. This would also be a great game to play with your kids.

This is a great game at all levels. You require to use both skill and thought as you advance through the levels. My son is 11 years old. He was taken in immediately by the quests. Many puzzles and different characters enhance the pleasure as one discovers artifacts and acquires new powers. There are many prizes along the way with transformations and transportation using any means possible including teleportation.
