On The Inside
I decided to buy this book because I wanted to discover writers that I could love as much as Jhumpa Lahiri.
I love reading about the commonalities I may have with different cultures. I am interested in reading points of view from authors that are bicultural. Thrity Umrigar explains not just different cultures, but the nuances in socioeconomic and education differences. You get to know her characters through deep emotional personal dialogues; You experience how complex not just her characters are, but also the existential demands society and culture place upon us.
