South Pacific ala '50s Hollywood
Well this is the cinematic version of the legendary Broadway musical. Mary Martin is gone and in her place the lighterweight Mitzi Gaynor (not singing her own songs either). Likewise Rossano Brazzi is no Enzio Pinza. But that aside it is a pretty neat movie and if you have Oklahoma and the Sound of Music, shouldn't you have this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical too?
The cinematic treatment sometimes takes away from the action and story, especially with the colored lenses which overlay the scenes whenever there is a song; guess the 50s crowd loved it?
This is movie is dated but nonetheless is interesting and charming in its own way BECAUSE it is dated. Here's a look back into our own past.
