This is Ravi Shankar's American debut, a true classic as inspiring and full of magic as the day of it's release.
For those ghettoized xenophobes who associate the sitar with lava lamps and psychotropic experimentation, this sublime music will ever be elusive.
For the rest of us, Ravi offers this magic carpet ride that gives us a new view of the horizon every time we play him.

The Sounds of India is excellent for what it is. I believe it is a teaching tape for those interested in various raga styles. The demonstration and explanation is interesting.
I was looking for sitar music to accompany my yoga practice. I am none too limber and need fluid music to fool my reluctant muscles. This tape, while interesting isn't quite what I wanted. Not the CD's fault but my own.

The Sounds of India by Ravi Shankar
) I just happened to see this CD while I was looking for something else. You know, I had a tape of this same music when I was in college over 50 years ago. It brought many pleasant memories when I first played the CD when I got it. I love the the music from India, and I went to see him in person twice many years ago - what an experience each time!
