A Sound of Thunder (DVD, 2006)

Just as I was slipping past my last scan along films at Blockbuster, I saw the cover to the illustrious A Sound of Thunder. First instincts were to grab it and skim over the back story line to see if I would be interested in watching it; and I was. I got back home, only to remember having seen this on the Sci-Fi channel about 6 months earlier.

The story-line goes like this: In the year 2055, wealthy hunters can travel back in time and kill a live dinosaur for a huge price. Sonia Rand (Catherine McCormack) developed a time machine. Charles Hatton (Sir Ben Kingsley) took the technology and opened a business known as Time Safari Inc. Anyone with the money, can travel back millions of years and shoot a dinosaur for sport. Dr. Travis Ryer (Edward Burns) leads his team together with the big game hunter on a floating walkway to a spot where they can kill the dinosaur. The trip protocol is that they must stay on the walkway and not disturb the land or any creature around them. Unfortunately, for the human race, one hunter steps on and kills a butterfly. This insignificant act causes major impacts to the earth's climate and creates new species of animal life. The course of evolution as we know it, is now being changed by time waves. Travis and Sonia try to stop the changing process before it becomes permanent, and man becomes extinct.

This film was great in a lot of ways, but fails to deliver on many of the 80 million dollar films promises. Although Ray Bradbury wrote this short story with the idea and intent of making a poignant appeal to modern man as his destructive nature tends to cause climactic upheavals by shaping defining moments.

Well, I just recently viewed this after i rented it.
I was very interested in the Cover of DVD. The movie is really poor in quality in the events of Timetravel since it doesn't exist. some things you can tell are not real.

However, after watching the dvd it turned out better than i would have imagined. There is a good plot and storyline so it made it worth renting or purchasing..
I am actually looking to buy a copy. Which i only do if i like it.

The book was a better read than the acting in this movie. Except for Ed Burns, everyone else was a dud. Too bad, because the book was excellent.

I love Ray Bradbury,This movie was packed with action and supense,The plot I thought was well played out an left you thinking if this could one day really happen.Ray Bradbury was a writer way ahead of his times.My kids as well loved this movies.

i bought it because of the original packaging and good shape. It is a good movie in good condition. I like that it was shipped quickly and will buy more movies from this seller.

It's a good sci-fi movie, and I could not
buy this movie in any of my local retail stores.

I was disappointed with this movie. I didn't think the directing or acting were so good. It could have been better probably by someone else.

Saw this listing on ebay... went to review it on several movie web sites... most of the reviews there gave it bad ratings due to poor special effects, poor acting, etc etc, but I like sci-fi movies and had not seen this one. ebay price was good and purchased it... Low and behold, the day before my purchase arrived in my mail box, it was on the SCI-FI channel... so I watched it...

I personally liked the movie.. yes it had some low spots in it, but all in all, who knows what will happen in the future and I found it very exciting to watch. Since the viewing on SCI-FI channel, I have watched the DVD twice. Its not the best movie out, I like the old B/W B horror/sci-fi movies from the 50s/60s. But it does keep your attention and give you a totally different view on things. BTW: I do not like DUNE, StarWars simply for the fact I can't keep up with all the episodes... But give me a Freddy Kruger, Jason or Star Trek I'm there. Go Figgure !

All in all for me... its a good Sunday afternoon movie, get the food ready for BBQ, then sit down and watch the movie and then cook...

This is a great movie! I read the story by Ray Bradbury when I was a kid and loved it! It doesn't often happen that a movie is as good as the original story. This one is!!!

I loved this movie, it may not be as big as others like it but it was different. I shows you how the earth may be if evolution was changed. Fast paced..

I'm sure I would like it; but, I have not received the movie I paid for in the first week of March...................

I had seen the trailer for this movie, but missed it in Theaters. So, when it came out on DVD, I set out to get it. It was almost impossible to find in stores, but a friend of mine sujested Ebay, so I gave it a try. The movie had a good story, but the special effect were for lack a better word quite cheesy. But, all in all I did enjoy it. I would recomend it for anyone who is a fan of SciFi movies.

I found this movie to be an exciting but out-of-the-ordinary science fiction movie. I love time-travel movies and, therefore, loved the Bradbury story concept of how tiny changes in the past can influence the future dramatically, especially when it involves evolution. This is not an acting film with lots of character development (Ben Kingsely did try) but had an interesting cast of American, British and German actors. The movie had fast-paced action mixed with huge scenario changes leading to quite a desperate race against time.

This is a high quality product that was delivered quickly and brand new. For those who like science fiction - futuristic movies, this is the film for you. I found it very entertaining and thought provoking. Im am very pleased with the film and its quality.

My son first saw bits of this movie at school and wanted to see the rest. Points out the message very clearly how all of our actions and choices influence everything else...even those we think are tiny or unimportant.

My kids love it. They think the movie is so neat how the group of people were told not to touch or remove anything and of course one of them did. They just liked the story and the plot behind the idea of how you can't really change things that occur in life. Great concept.

Great what-if type of movie. It shows the paranoia surounding time travel and making changes in the past that could drastically change the future. I quite enjoyed it.

This movie is absolutely AWESOME!!! It is a must see movie!!!!! If you like to take a trip back in time to see the dinosaurs then this is the perfect movie for you!!!!!!!! We have a grandson who loves dinosaurs and this was the perfect movie for him!!!!!!!!

i waited a long time to see this movie it wasit as great as the book i had hope'd BUT it was a good movie vary cool monsters action if you love stargate then youll like sound of thunder HAY its worth buying

I love "end of the world as we know it" movies, so I thought this was pretty good. The special effects and acting were good, but the story could have been a little more involving. I wished they had cut out some of the slower parts and added some to the end of it. All in all it was worth my money and time.

The DVD was perfect. No bad stop.The story is based on a Ray Bradbury story and is directed by Peter Hyams. It has great special effects. Overall it's a good movie.

As an afficado of sci fi, I bought this not having seen it. The science portion was believable and the special effects were very good. Future creatures and possible evolutionary divergence were believable as well. I particularly liked the ending, which I won't give away, but was too cool. It did tend to drag in the beginning, but picked up and kept the pace about 1/3 of the way through. I recommend it for an evening or afternoon relaxer.
