Blessed with a fabulously dynamic voice, Kelly Price is a welcome addition to the competitive world of R&B music with her debut SOUL OF A WOMAN. Not only has Price co-written every song on the album except one, she is also the producer or co-producer of seven songs. "Friend of Mine" became a huge hit at Urban and Pop radio. Produced by J. Dub and Stevie J, the track is a vibrant tale of a friend who betrays Price's trust and steals her man. Other songs to check out are "Don't Say Goodbye" (produced by Price and Alvin West), "Your Love," which features a rap appearance from Lil' Cease, and "Just One More Time" which boasts a guest spot from R. Kelly. Soft strings and beautiful piano on the ballads are offset by strong drum programming and hot melodies on the faster songs ("Secret Love").
Editorial Reviews ...One listen to ther debut makes clear that Price's poignant vocals rise above her peers'. But without the sugar-pop hooks and samples that dominate the charts, SOUL will move only the adult crowd, until the remixers come calling. - Rating: B Entertainment Weekly (09/25/1998)
...Whether taking her man to task, making him feel appreciated or giving praise to the Lord, Kelly Price has the ability to make you forget that you've pretty much heard all this before... The Source (10/01/1998)
