Album Notes Originally released by TK Records (615). Composer: James Brown. Personnel: James Brown (vocals). Audio Remasterers: Joe Gastwirt; Bob Fisher . Originally released in 1980, SOUL SYNDROME is not by any stretch a must-have James Brown release, filled as it is with extended, repetitive jams that borrow their best ideas from his early hits. Nevertheless, the grooves still pack a punch; check out opener "Rapp Payback," which reprises "The Payback" and posits JB as one of the original rappers, or "Funky Men," with its tasty horn charts. Although slightly smoother than his early `70s work, SOUL SYNDROME is plenty funky. It's not the best place to start for newcomers, but hardcore fans shouldn't overlook it.
