Real cast voices are the game's only strong point.

The only reason I got some enjoyment out of this game is because I love the show and it was kind of fun to "interact" with Tony, Paulie, Christopher, etc. But the characters don't look close enough to their real-life counterparts to make it seem even remotely like you're part of an episode. Gandolfini and company give the game some personality but you wouldn't expect these guys to spend more than an hour recording voiceovers, do you? The result - the game is very short. In order to make it last a little longer they had AJ's character figure very prominantly. I mean why else would he of all people be giving you "missions" in this game? The game mostly has you fighting, running to another place, and fighting again. You have a gun (pistol or shotgun) in only 2-3 missions because the gunplay is very poorly done. There are no driving missions which could have mixed things up a little. Gameplay is repetitive and to many it will seem pretty boring. You'll appear in the Bada Bing, Satriole's, a gym, hospital, garage, warehouse, casino, dockyard, etc. but all seem rather lifeless. There are no female cast members present nor do you see Tony's house. It would have been nice to see more characters from the show. It would have also been nice to have larger, freeroaming sets instead of everything being so linear; there are no side missions, you can't start trouble, etc. The loot you collect isn't worth much. The only thing I "bought" was some "respect" from Paulie. The whole Respect meter was ill-conceived as well. It never really played a part for me. I knew this game wasn't going to be very good but I wanted to play it anyway. It's short and easy...rent it first. I bought it on ebay and plan to sell it for about what I paid. This game doesn't compare to any of the the GTA games, obviously. But the gameplay is also much inferior to Scarface, Godfather, Mafia, Getaway and even Driver and True Crime. All show much more variety and some degree of depth. I'd only recommend this game to a Sopranos fan who's well aware of this game's shortcomings.
