The Sopranos - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD, 2005)

Now, if you’re reading this you know that The Soprano’s is one of the best series ever on HBO (short of Curb Your Enthusiasm, of course). The Fifth Season of The Sopranos is absolutely spectacular – Gandolfini once again struggles with his role as humble family man and insane mob boss. Despite his best attempts to maintain peace and harmony, he’s dead in the middle of all the surrounding tension and gets sucked into the personal and business tensions that we would expect him to be part of.

James and Carmela are officially separated this season, they but still manage to maintain a continuous stream of family problems. Christopher and Paulie continue to “manage the business” with Tony, and in classic fashion they run into their fair share of problems (hint: plenty of violence). To manage his sanity, Tony continues his therapy with Dr. Melfi and she continues to fend off his ever-so-subtle (yeah, right) flirtatious advances.

Hands down, there are great performances by Adriana as well – you won’t want to skip a single episode nor some of the cool special features and commentary. This set is a must-have for your Sopranos collection.

The personal and professional adventures of Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) unfold once again in this fifth season of episodes from the show. This time out he's officially separated from Carmela (Edie Falco), but still beset by family problems and a wandering eye that strays into some dangerous territory. Christopher (Michael Imperioli), Paulie (Tony Sirico), and Silvio (Steve Van Zandt) still keep their eyes on the business end of Tony's life, while Anthony Jr. (Robert Iler) and Meadow (Jamie Lynn Sigler) learn some tough lessons as the offspring of a notorious mob boss. Tony's sister Janice (Aida Turturro) causes further problems for her beleaguered brother, including a stint in Anger Management classes, but fortunately the ever-reliable Dr. Melfi (Lorraine Bracco) is on hand to beat off Tony's advances and steady his nerves through her therapy sessions.

If you have not watched the Sopranos it is time to start. With the selection on television these days it is more enjoyable watching a rerun of the Sopranos than some of these NEW reality shows. Start from season 1 and follow through to season five before the new season starts in March. It is bloody, but the First season was the bloodiest after that you either get used to it or it is not so bloody.

I don't know if it's the best season ever, but I can't remember one! Buy the whole series collection if possible.

This is another great season. it doesn't compare to the excellence of the first season, but it's still damn good. It's much better than the fourth season by a long shot. Here's how I'd rank the sopranos seasons:

No matter what, this season was very good. Although not as good as the first three seasons, it was still great. It had the deaths of Joe Peeps, Billy Leotardo, Tony Blundetto, and lots of other excellent characters. i really liked the character of Joe Peeps in this season. It was a great season overall.

This set is amazing. The quality of the picture is fabulous, the music is wonderful and the plot thickens. We come to a better understanding of the characters and even delve deeper into Carmella's hear no evil see no evil attitude. She struggles daily to try to justify Tony's line of "work". She knows, the whole family knows, but the separation is becoming more of a live away husband and wife situation than an actual separation. Characters we haven't met yet or have been imprisoned are back. When Tony made the comment in a former episode, "I feel like I came in at the end" is beinning to make sense. I have the first four seasons on tape, the fifth sixth and part two six are about to arrive on CD. The CD picture is far superior to the VHS. Tony is doing his level best to be with his doctor on a more personal level, when she refuses him, the "other Tony" comes out. He admits ther are two Tony's, one is charming, loving, fun and nice to be with, the other Tony is cruel, hateful and has done horrific things, he seems more and more to be a-moral than just a person with no feelings. I am anxious to see the last episode even though I know what happens. It is great to own the entire set. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves this kind of action, drama and dark comedy.

Not many times you can have six seasons of dvd that play out like a giant movie. So much better to have DVD in season and order of episodes. No lost scence or major break to loose your thought line. Last time I did this much purchase was Alias and that was well worth the money as you never can stay home and watch every episode unless you go on dvd and a major rainy day or snowy night..

I bought this as a gift for my husband. I bought it on ebay because it was cheaper and it helps others profit from sales. It is a great series and we enjoy it very much.

Season 5 is great. It is better than season 6.1 and 6.2 and 4, but about as good as the first 3. There are alot of shocking surprises in this season.

I bought the Sopranos Season 5 dvd set a few weeks back as an addition to Season 1-4. I enjoyed watching every season so far and decided to proceed with purchasing season 5. This season is full of surprising, jaw-dropping changes in the dramatic saga that is Tony Sopranos life.bbNow, after watching this season I will be purchasing Season 6. I highly recommend this product for any Sopranos fan out there! Even if you don't own any other seasons, this will make a great addition to any dvd collection out there!

This is a very great set for any Sopranos fan or afficianado. Two people get 'clipped,' and it is worth seeing.

I am still upset over this auction. I sent the seller the required money order (which took time because I had to go to a store to buy it, rather than using paypal which I normally use - he refused paypal). I bought it to fill out my collection of the Sopranos DVDs, and although he said it was used, he said he'd only viewed it once. I never got an answer an then a note from eBay popped up on my eBay summary page to say that this person was no longer registered. I intend to write a letter to this person, but am certain I will not get my $43.50 back. It just makes me furious! This show is amazing I have watched every episode at least 3 times including the new season. You pick up much more the second or 3rd time around. Long term parking episode was incredible. Edie Falco was amazing this season is every other. James Gandolfini always is top shelf. Michael Imperioli had some break through performances as well. If you dont like the Sopranos, wait, you have to like this show there is something for everyone.

Tony is nuts in this season, and the Sopranos just get better and better in this its fixth season! If you like the Mafia, or any organized crime, this season will appeal to you greatly!!! The fifth season has me waiting for the next season! These characters are so in character that's it hard to believe they are just actors. Wonderfully written, produced & performed.

I just love the Sopranos, it's fast moving and enough drama to keep you on your seat. Usually when Tony makes a decision and after the build up to it, I agree with it. His shrink gets a little manatinious. All in all I love this series.
