Based off of the package specs online, the Mylo looks quite promising as wifi enabled mobile solution for the instant messaging / VoIP generation... That is if you ignore the hefty $350 pricetag. I would not have taken the cons for this device as seriously had the price been in the $150-225 range.

So what does $350 get you?

You get a bean shaped gadget capable of connecting to various types of wifi networks, instant messaging (Yahoo, Google Talk, & Skype), VoIP (Skype), movies, music, pictures, and a semi-impressive browser.

What $350 doesn't get you is a device that you can use when the lights go out. An instant messaging device with one of the poorest keyboard designs I have ever used. Sony slapped a pulsing light on the side of the device which constantly glows when connected to a wifi network. Why the hell wasn't a backlit keyboard included? As soon as the lights go out, your device looses much of its value.

Hold off from purchasing this device until Sony implements an acceptable keyboard AND decides to support the larger AIM / AOL network.

The mylo has a very sleek, techno feel. It is easy to connect to the internet - the wifi is very intuitive and you don't have to hunt for how to make it work. The graphics are great, the speed is faster than expected, and all in all it does a great job of what its supposed to do!

  Quite the Gizmo from Sony

This gadget from sony really takes takes the market by surprise. The mylo combines everything that today's modern technologist-lover likes and combines it into one. From internet on the go to playing your favorite songs while reading an e-book. It does it all. The screen has a crystal clear picture and its keyboard feels intutive. I was skeptical when I first took a look at the device but after using it for 2 minutes. It bowled me over. The most surprising function was how easily it connected to wi-fi. Being the computer nerd that I am, I was surprised it was able to connect so flawlessly.

If you are always on the road and if there is WIFI where ever you are then I would say this is perfect item for you to keep in touch with Family & Friends. I would have to say it's not what I expected.

The Sony Mylo takes new steps using wifi!

When using the wireless internet, the battery life does not last that long. The battery last if you are not using the wireless internet. I have been having trouble getting my movies from iTunes onto this player. The product works well with the internet. Just remember it is not a computer and is restricted to internet features. The headphones with the microphone built in works well with Skype. It also works well if you just hold it to your head like a normal phone. Very easy to use! Don't loose the piece to plug in your headphones.

  Sony Mylo

The Sony mylo was good for about the first week. There are alot of things that really bother me. For example, instant messaging was one of the main reasons why i bought it only to find it does not have aim installed. secondly the music section is too complicated because you cant listen to all of your music on random you have to listen to all the songs of a particular artist unless u compile a playlist, which can be quite boring. i wish i would have had a week to try it out before i had to purchase :(

Frist of all I want to say the sykpe feature works extemely well! I really wish that you could listen to Mp3's While Surfing the Interenet. I really like the yahoo feature (if you add msn members on the pc you can talk to them on the mylo). Somtimes it freeze's up witch this happens on alot of Mobile device's. does not load flash websites. You have to use software to move your videos to your mylo (because it has to resize the videos). I think everyone who owns a mylo need memeroy stick pro duo 8gb stick.

Great Skype phone with lots of gadgets to play with
Review created: 04/28/08

This little phone as I call it, is great with such an easy hook up to wifi and Skype. It works wonderful in all reguards except you need the headphones to hear it very well. I bought it for the wife to use at our resort as they have wifi and she can always stay in touch. I have the Mylo comm-2 and like the backlit keyboard and the b+g connection. There are a lot of them on Ebay and I think some folks don't totally understand what wifi is and how it works. It is a great deal "if" you have a wifi connection close at hand. It is a shame so many say almost new, makes me wonder if they bought it thinking it would do something else. Anyway they are wonderful for us because our cell phones don't work in the mountains near San Diego (our camping spot)
Good luck and I have to say Sony has done a wonderful job making this little thing and I only buy Sony for tv's, stereos and all our Mylo needs..

  Why I have a Mylo

I use SKYPE for my phone service. My elderly parents are able to use SKYPE on their PC (they live in England I live in the USA) and we have WIFI at work so for me it is a great gadget. Without a doubt Sony could do better.

  Unfulfilled Expectation !
Review created: 10/13/09

The idea of surfing the net and making Skype phone calls free is why I decide to buy Sony Mylo COM-1. But the voice quality during Skype calls was poor on the receiving end. Also the Mylo is limited to connecting to only 802.11b WiFi signal. It will show 802.11g WiFi signal, but not connect? This became a draw back after upgrading my wireless router to 802.11n. Wireless N router broadcast 802.11 B,G and N WiFi signals. The Mylo was unable to connect to my Belkin wireless N router. As a mp3 and video player, I would rate it as marginal. The Sony Mylo is good idea that needs more work.
