Love watching movies on it, playing picture slideshows, and the music sounds fantastic! The picture may be small for movie watching, but it puts out a beautiful picture. Great for travel. I get lost in mine. It's fun to use and so small and compact. I wouldn't trade it for any other brand.

I'm replacing a 2GB Sanda m250 and wanted a drop-n-drag player with better sound and menus that are easier to navigate. (No iPods. Don't want the hardware risks and higher prices.) The A818 scores on all fronts. The sound is a lot more dynamic through highs and lows and it's easy to find particular songs or artists or set up playlists.
Battery life is rated at 33 hours. It spends most of its time in my car and I've found it will last about two weeks on a charge, and that's plenty for me.
The only downsides -- it has a proprietary USB cable. And you can't delete files from the player w/o connecting it to the computer. That's not enough to drop the rating, just be warned.
Otherwise, it's top notch all the way!

Incredible Sound - An iPod Killer

I had read about the Sony Digital Walkman and was lucky to find one on auction here on Ebay. After receiving it my expectations were definitely exceeded. The sound is incredible (in no small part due of the high end headphones that came with it) and you have a lot of control over the settings so you can tailor it for your own personal tastes. I also found it was easy to set up and start using. I chose Napster To Go for my music service (yes, you actually have a choice - unlike Zune or iPod) and it handles the downloads quickly with no fuss. I'm not into video content yet but this unit plays them so it's ready to go when I get around to it. My kids all have Nanos and now they want to go out and buy the digital walkman.
Summary - Its looks great and has easy to use controls, its easy to set up and use, it plays music and video files, has a killer set of headphones and great sound, and you get to choose from different music services.

I bought this mp3 player as a Christmas gift for my "music loving" husband, just hoping with my limited knowledge about them, that it would be a good one. Well, I have to say that I am very happy to have given him the best player on the market. After he finished thanking me for such a great gift, I soon found out that this one is the only mp3 player to get the prestigious and coveted "Consumer Award"! I definitely recommend this product. It plays movies with HD quality, the sound is awesome, and event he earphones that come with it are unique and more comfortable than most. Way to go "Sony" for a great product as always!

I had been searching through the iPods and was not liking what I found. I came across the Sony MP-3 player. I researched it and decided to buy it from what I found. I am glad I did. The Sony is so much easier to use. I use Windows Media to download my music and I did not have to buy new music. I have recommended the Sony to all my friends and family. I am going to surprise my brother with a Sony MP-3 player.

after shopping around and researching a lot of different mp3 players and even the popular ipod that the SONY NWZ-818 had the largest memory at 8gb lowest cost and the highest rating of satisfactory from people (owners)surveyed.It was easy to load music pictures and short videos..the only thing that I personally didn't care for were the ear buds which to me was a minor thing.Hope this helps with your choice.

I first checked with Consumer Reports before I purchased the Sony NWZ-A818 and found out that they considered this to be the best MP3 Flash memory player. They were right! This player is easy to use. It downloads my music files easily. It also sounds wonderful. I usually don't like the way ear buds sound but the ones that comes with this unit are the best I have ever heard. It has full rich sound not the small tiny trebley sound other ear buds have. I have not seen any movies on it yet but I didn't buy it to watch movies. Im closing if you are looking for a great sounding easy to use MP3 I would highly recommed this unit!

This is the second Sony NWZ-A818 I have purchased, one for myself and one for my son. Both of us are amazed by this unit. The sound is unreal! Also, the ear buds are top quality, not the usual cheap junk that's included. After listening to several Ipods, I was disappointed by the sound quality. The Sony has a rich full sound and a lot of ways to change it to your preference. There may be a lot of accessories available for the Ipod, but for pure sound the Sony is number one.

Plug 'n Play with Vista 64 Operating SystemNow that I'm running under the Vista 64 bit system I needed a player in addition to my old, beloved but now-incompatible Rio Karma.
Happily, the Sony Walkman MP3 player works like a charm. I plugged it in with the USB cable, let the battery charge, and then dragged and dropped my week's radio programs, easy-breezy.
The only issues that weren't intuitive was how to take the player off "hold" (there's a slider on the back, in the lower righthand corner) and how to set the clock (go "back" to the "home" screen and click on settings\comomon settings\set date-time).

I had this product stolen from my car, and I was in search of a new MP3 player. I thought this was an opportunity to upgrade to a better player, but the quality and price of this player were so good, and the reviews were down-right flawless (check cnet, amazon, customer reports, etc...).
So, I bought the exact same player and enjoy it just as much as when I bought it the first time... I just don't leave it in my car anymore :)

Can't go wrong with this MP-3Great overall mp-3 player. Long battery life is a definite plus. Sounds great and picture, colors very vibrant. 8gb storage is adequate for loads of songs, but have not used it for movies. Included armband is wonderful for using during workouts, or for using while mowing, etc. Only dislike are the double length earphones, one being much shorter than the other.Although they sound superb, smaller end can, and often does get knocked out of your ear if active when wearing them. Overall, can't beat the sound and features for the modest cost, an A+ value.

Brended playerI was looking for SONY mp3 player. I have got only 120$ for it. And found one in seller (dolphin1959) goods list. We got a nice talk by email. He has say me about some shipping problems but I have got the same item like this SOMY mp3 player without problems. And have decided to aske seller to send me item without Shipping Insurance. About quality of the product I don't know what to say. SONY always produce high quality goods. Comfortable to use (good buttons and navigation). Cool design very stylish and orgonomy. Wery useful extender for headset! You can put your player in top pocket of shirt or in pocker of pants. No unnecessary wires.
And about headset sound quality - it's WONDERFUL! Full bass and good high frequencies.
Maybe what I've dislike. This player do not read APE and FLAC formats. BuT! It isn't a reason to do not buy this Perfect SONY product!

This Sony 8G MP3 was a BUY IT NOW on eBay at $89.00. For the price and the power I don't think it can be beat. I had a Sansa 2G MP3 which I paid $79 a year ago and I thought that was a very good MP3 player and I guess it still is, but it doesn't come close to the Sony NWZ-A818. This model is about 1 to 2 years old and can still be bought on eBay (new in box) for under $100. This Model(NWZ-A818) out performs the newer Sony 8G model hands down. Sony cheepened the head phones in the newer models and the housing isn't as nice. The head phones in the NWZ-A818 are better than any head phones I have found for under $60.00, and I mean just the head phones. This is the best buy for under $100 bucks. Good Luck!!!

I bought this 8-gig Walkman so I could listen to MP-3's and other stuff while I'm working. It has become an indispensable part of my life now. A guy down at work had brought me his ipod, asking if I could put some music on it, but there were so many roadblocks about what files you could load, I was scared away from owning one.
I bought this Walkman, and have loaded a huge music library from my MP-3 files, as well as numerous audiobooks and about 15 full-length movies. I also have a massive photo library loaded.
When I travel for business, I can sit on the plane and watch a movie of my choosing. Nice feature. I show pictures to friends and associates. And, while I'm working, I'll be listening to a book or some music.
The software for loading and managing files is available for free from Sony, and it works very well. All in all, this is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone.

I has and older Samsung 2 gb but started comparing different brands. Settled on the Sony and couldn't be happier. The sound is better than any of the other I tested at the stores. Including the Zune and Ipod. Plus I got a great price not try to get a pink one for my daughter.

Supurb MP3 player!I would give this player 4.5 out of 5 if the option was presented (it is not perfect but pretty darn close)
Sick and tired of the Apple Ipods, I did some research for something more to my taste.
Itunes is proprietary, clunky and intrusive. I wanted a drag and drop solution and something with a decent battery life, hence the A818.
I have used most players on the market, and the Sony strikes me as the most all rounded. The build quality is exceptional, the screen is clear and vivid, sound playback is crisp (as good as an Iaudio 7 which I have listened to many times) and the interface is very functional if you take a little time to learn its capabilities.
The clearbass works very well with the included headphones, and the customizable equalizer (2 customizable) allows you to get the most out of higher quality headphones (shure, etymotic etc).
Let it be known that I am not a big Sony fan, in fact this is the only Sony product I own right now. As long as they keep producing a player like this, it will be an easy choice for me to buy another one down the line.
Things to like:
-Great battery life, around 30 hours depending on how much you skip
-Very high quality build and finish, micro switches feel high quality and its navigation does not include a scrollwheel which is the bees knees!
-Interface is very powerful, you can search for songs, get to the currently playing song from anywhere with one button, customizable equalizer and much more.
-Included headphones are great, comfy and planty of bass for my liking. I should note that I have good hearing and the full volume is way louder than I would ever feel comfortable with. A few people think its not loud enough, these must be the same people that keep asking me to talk louder to them when I am really shouting :-)
-Outstanding sound quality, should be the benchmark for all players
Things not to like:
-90 Day warranty (for labor, after which you have to pay. 1 year on parts)? Seriously Sony, don't you have more confidence in your products? (many of their electronics have this short warranty, I don't get it..)
-Data transfer is slow. Its supposed to be USB 2.0 but really feels like 1.0
-Proprietary cable - one more drawer stuffer.
-Included headphone cable a few inches too short. Kinda reminds me of the opposite of my Shure E4 cable which is too long (sigh, you cant win ..)
