Sony SLV-D281P DVD Player / VCR Combo

We are in the process of converting our VHS collection to DVD. Another of our dvd/vcr combos went south, so this one replaces it. It functions perfectly for our use. Sony generally makes a good product.

I bought the Sony SLVD281P DVD Player/VCR Combo a few weeks ago. The Sony name is the main reason I purchased this item. The other reasons were the great price and the sellers positive feedback. I was looking to replace an older Combo player.
I'm not technically up to date so I didn't think to ask if it had direct cable hook-up. This item does not have a tuner so it had to be hooked up through my older VCR. I was going to return it but fortunately, my grandson was on leave from the Navy and got it working for me. I can't record with the VCR part but I can watch DVD's and that is the main reason I bought this unit.
It's not the units fault..it's because I don't know how to do it. I have an older TV and that is another reason the unit isn't working up to it's capabilities.
I am looking to upgrade another DVD/VCR combo and you can be sure I'm doing more research so I will be able to use all the functions.

The player has worked perfect from the day I set it up. The only thing I had a problem with it has no hook up for cable/sat. it only has RCA plugs and I had to buy an adapter for the TV

I was more than a little disapointed whe I hooked this item up to learn then that it will not play or record TV without an additional device.I like to watch TV and have the surround sound but this unit is not capable as it has no cable input or out put hookups...this being the second unit purchsed in less than a mounth(the first broke and the seller would not replace)I have desided not to buy on Ebay anymore.

I like the functions very user friendly. I was looking for a DVD/VCR combo and this one is great. The only thing that I dont like is you cant copy from a VHS tape to the dvd. But you can from dvd to vcr.

I was shopping for a VHS player and read all the reviews for this product. It appears that most people are happy with their player. However many are happy in spite of a variety of failings by the product or discontent with the vendor. Those who had new electronic equipment hooked up and were running right away. Others had to purchase additional connectors to make the unit work with their TVs. A few had a really dismal experience dealing with the seller. There were enough negatives hidden in among the positives to warn me off. Maybe the seller should publish more info on what TVs the unit is compatible with and what connectors are not included. I'll keep shopping.

Works great highly recommended product. I bought it for my home and I use it almost daily. It works smooth and flawless as I expected.

It was a sony and looked like a great buy now that i have it will have to find someway to have it fixed. when i bought it i did not try the cd side just the vh side and that was my fault. live and learn. gw

I needed a player that would play both VHS tapes and DVD's. The one I purchased works like a charm. I love it and I got it a a very good price!

we have always had good luck with sony products,we still use a stero we purchased in 1978.this combo vcr/dvd is no exception,we are happy with it.

Good unit. The only downside is the connections. It is not a coax-based connection, so you can't tune tv channels through the player.

Very decent DVD/VCR combo player, The only thing I dislike about it, it doesnt have Dolby digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1 decoder!

I like the fact the item was just as described. It had no cosmetic damage and worked perfectly. I decided to buy it because of the great price of the item compared to similar products. Also, I bought it because I was able to purchase a three year warranty for the item for less than $15.

I purchased this item because I needed an inexpensive DVD/VCR player to use in my classroom. Many teaching materials are either VHS tapes or on DVD and I needed a reliable player with a remote control that I could connect to an LCD projector. This Sony Combo was very reasonably priced and had the specifications I needed. Being able to run either format (tape or DVD)in the same machine was very important to me. The SONY SLV-D281P was very easy to set up and run. The quality of the picture and sound are excellent. I would highly recommend this product as it proved to me you don't need to spend a lot of money to get the basics in a DVD/VCR player.

I was looking for something to consolidate my 8MM movies of my Grandchildren.This unit is player only.I understood from the add it said recording time on DVD up to 8 hours.He offered refund less shipping,so not worth my time and effort.I will do more research before I buy what I really want.So upset at this time I have not even removed unit from box,only the manual so I could read instructions first.When I get more time will hook up and see how it works AFTER I get a machine to RECORD DVDS.DON'T KNOW HOW TO RATE BUT THEY REQUIRE RATING SO IT MAY BE BETTER OR WORSE>

We've been using this unit for a month now, and the picture quality is excellent. Buyers must be aware that this is a DVD PLAYER, not RECORDER, but that's exactly what we were looking for in the exercise room.
On ours, the remote doesn't power on/off, but all other functions work fine.
Don't know if this is true of other units. (that's the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars.)

It was a great price, and it was shipped quick. The only complain is that the door to the vcr does not properly work.

Great product. Good player and I love the fact that it plays both dvd and vhs and records on both as well.

I expected honesty and customer protection. I am extremely disappointed. The supplier M/s K Squared Enteprise Inc; 143 Jaycee Drive, Ste # 6, Johnson Town, PA 15904; Phone # 814-467-6001; shipped inauthentic merchandize. I had a hard time getting refund from PayPal[ref PayPal case # PP487359081 Agent Mr. Nigel # 7550 very nice person]. Everyone at eBay and PayPal talked very nicely yet it has taken almost two month and I have not received complete refund so far. PayPal and the supplier still ows me $ 6.92 for the return freight as promised by the supplier and by PayPal. The supplier is the dishonest company owned by a dishoned man. Greg & Mile owners were rude and abusive,in addition their secy Tina was misguiding. No one should deal with eBay and PayPal as loong as they help and enlist dishonest suppliers.
