I bought this item used off of eBay. It has performed flawlessly to date. It is quite user friendly, and records well off satellite TV. I have not had any problems with encrypted messages preventing me from recording, as I have read in other reviews. This thing is awesome, and has far more features than I will ever use, but they are there if I need them. I have recorded from my Hi8 camcorder with no problems as well. The unit uses many different formats of DVDs which is another great feature. It has the capability's to finalize disk so they can be played elsewhere. I have recorded several movies off Pay-per-View with no problem, and have played them in other machines, including my portable player in the car for my child. All in all, a great piece of equipment. I am 100% satisfied with this unit.
