As an owner of all three game systems, I bought the PS3 last, mostly due to the price tag and slower market entry, but eventually bought it for Blu-ray compatabilities. However, I am now using it mostly for video games. I have to give the best hardware rating to PS3. The blu-ray player, the sturdy construction, the backwards compatability, the ability to unite with my PSP, and wifi capability, make the PS3 quite a nice addition to a home theater setup. The controller has motion sensor capabilities, but not as creative or entertaining an Nintendo Wii. However, the consistency of controller layout across three console generations gives the PS3 a one-up in familiarity, not to mention the remote can power the system on and off. The system OS is well designed and easy to use. Setting up the system doesn't take that long and changing the OS theme is a nice option.

Dislikes: Some games take a long time to load (which sucks). Also, video settings don't allow for a simple transition between HDMI and Component video settings (which makes it inconvenient to transfer between my HDTV and projector).

Likes: Quiet Operation (unlike Xbox 360). Compatibility with pretty much every type of media options available. Backwards compatability with PS1/PS2 games (I purchased the old 60GB model). PS3 only titles coming to market (FF13, MGS4, GT4, Haze, R:FOM 1 & 2, etc.).

Overall: Xbox 360 has a great game lineup, comfortable controls, and a nice system OS layout. However the 360 hardward was built shoddy (loud DVD, frequent user issues) and they charge for online play (although $50 per year isn't too bad). The Wii is a very cool system, offering the ability to repurchase and play classics, backwards compatability with Gamecube, and motion sensor controls that allow gamers to get off their couch. Wii's shortfalls include games that are majorly tailored to kids and the hardware is not capable of matching the other two systems (but price tag and ingenuity wash out the issues). PS3 is the most powerful system, is getting a stronger library of games, and the best OS layout. It's downfall include some lag issues with load times and a high price tag. If I had to rank how much I like each system in relation now, I'd place them in the following order: PS3, Wii, & then Xbox 360. Please caveat my response on 360 is due to the amount of hardware issues I've faced (two DVD drives, faulty downloads on xbox live). I'm sure if I had the 360 Elite, I would have a different standpoint.

Well if i had received the ps3 im sure i would have enjoyed it but since it was apparently a fictional purchase i have got no joy out of this purchase. I Paid $410 dollars through paypal. For those who are wondering even though I paid through paypal i have currently only received $200 back even though it is extremely obvious he never intended to ship me the item. There were 5 other people that were done this way by the seller with other items of high value. I'm curious why eBay sent me an email telling me i could write a review since I was hoping something was being done about this seller by eBay. The name of the seller was crazychris1989 so steer clear of him since it seems he'll keep doing what he is doing with no resistance from the company. Granted, I've been playing GTA IV on my system, and who doesn't love GTA? I may be biased by that, but this system has outstanding performance so far.
I am no geek (just a 40something mom), but the quality of video and the speed with which it loads is AWESOME. It's almost like watching a live action movie (not exact, you can tell it's animated, but close).
Games load very quickly and I love the fact that it can be adapted to Linux. PS2 was good- in its day. But the PS3 can play older games at a much faster rate with better quality video.
The wireless control is a definite bonus. You can only do serious gaming for a few hours (about 5 or so)before you have to recharge, but you can continue the game with the control wired. (No interruption in game.)
Watching Blu-ray discs is AMAZING! The quality cannot be beat at this time and is worth the price of the PS3.
If you want a bundle pack, go ahead; but I say 'meh.' The system is the important thing, so go basic, spend the dough on games and Blu-ray. DVDs play equally as well, but I'm a huge fan of the new format now that I've seen it.

this thing is hot! no I mean it gets really hot. hotter than a lot of components I've seen. I would recommend that PS3 owners keep their units well vented and isolated from other hot components like receivers or amps, dvd players, cd players, etc.

I'm a little worried that this gaming platform is too much like a home computer (hardware wise). more things to go wrong. and it appears to have a pretty complex operating system that I would imagine would be supsceptable to corruption, especially considering the ps3 is web accessible.

The concept of "less is more" was lost on the design team of the PS3, HOWEVER!!! all this criticism aside, it is by far, Sony's best achievement in a gaming platform. I have had no problems with my used 60g PS3, and look forward to hours upon hours of gaming. (currently playing GTA4) which brings up another good feature of the PS3- its ability to download software patches to games, as in the case of GTA4's issue with locking up. by the time I received my ps3 and bought GTA4, a patch to fix it was issued and that was the first thing that happened when I played my ps3 for the first time.

oh and lets not forget that, to my knowledge, the ps3 is the only blue-ray player that will be UPGRADEABLE to "tomorow's" blue-ray media. I'm already hearing stories of blue-ray players being incompatible with some of the newer br disks coming out.
