Sony Mavica Digital Cameras are Workhorses. Do Not Be Fooled By The Mega Pixels. They Deliver Clear Photos to a Standard Floppy Disk.

  camra is great
Review created: 01/08/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I recieved this as a gift and i Really like it. It has a big screen on the back to see what you are taking a picture of. The camra takes a 3.5 floppy disk so i dont have to plug any cords into the computer every time i want to download pictures, thats nice. It is a little heavier then what I wanted but with all the other features it has its worth it.

Sony Mavica MVC FD87 1.3 Megapixel Camera

I liked the removable 3x5 disk. You are not limited to how many pictures you can take. You can also buy a memory stick if you wish to. Plus, you do not have to load them all on your hard drive and take up a lot of space. The other feature is the rechargeable battery. Camera batteries are expensive.

I was disappointed that the seller didn't have the manual. Though the camera was in great shape, along with the camera case. Even though I didn't have the instruction manual the menu options were easy to follow.

The reason I picked this type of camera is that I have owned two other types of camera's that didn't last long. My brother and parents have owned these types and have had good luck with them and they are afordable for the type of pictures that I would be taking. I would say reliability was a deciding factor at an affordable price.

Now Old, but still my Favorite Camera
Review created: 12/05/09
by:

I recently bought 2 more of these on Ebay, because the first one I bought (new) some 10 years ago, has had a lot of use and started to show signs of getting tired, refusing to format certain floppy discs, etc. and to avoid another great disappointment of having to do without one, I bought a spare one as well, that's how much value I attach to this Camera, evenso people will put this camera down as inadequate and obsolete, being only a 1.3 MP camera.
10 years ago I won a price with this camera with a photo of our great grand daughter wearing all her rings on her fingers, which was published in the Sony Glossy magazine. The photo I submtted was enlarged to 500 x 750 mm, printed on multiple sheets and still sharp and yet, the camera only had a top resolution of 1280 x 960.
I tried to make a similar picture with my more recently aquired 12.6 MP (Famous Brand) camera, but didn't even get to half that size.
If you have a floppy drive on your computer and don't want to go into Big money, this would be the easiest camera to produce top quality photos, which you can print within seconds.
This camera has an auto-focus, which works in steps. Every time you press the focus button, the distance goes up from Macro - 0.5m - 1m - 3m - 7m - to Infinity, so if you set your approximate distance, you're assured of getting a razor sharp immage. It has a Selftimer, 3-level Flash and numerous Effects. You can insert a memory card in a convertor floppy disc and increase the No. of photo's you can take, before changing discs.
It has a 3x OPTICAL Zoom as well as a Digital one. The battery life is up to 180 min. Discs are still freely available. It has Date/Time setting,Rec. mode. the choice of 4 immage resolutions, White balance and even sharpness control.
All by all, the camera provides you with a most convenient and fast way to make photos.
The cons? Well, if you want to take it on a tour or holiday and want to make a lot of High Resolution pictures, you could find it a bit heavy, as you have to bring a lot of blanc floppies with you.

  Not happy
Review created: 11/25/09(updated 11/25/09)
by:

I ordered this item and the description stated the battery was included. It was not. When I wrote to the seller, he stated it was exactly as described. I went back to the description, thinking I might be wrong, but I wasn't. I had to purchase a battery for over $10.00. All in all, the cost of the camera, shipping, battery and shipping for that made it very expensive. I will never use this seller again. It was the first time I ever wrote negative feedback or review.

  Best Camera I've Used
Review created: 05/04/09

I bought one of these new and used it for years until it got stolen, so have purchased a couple more used ones on eBay so I'll always have one. FD87 isn't heavy, but has a little weight to it, so every little breath doesn't blur the picture. Sony lense produces clear, crisp images - don't be put off by the low megapixels, it doesn't matter with this camera. Extreme closeup shots are excellent and have used it indoors, outdoors, panoramic, to shoot people, landscapes, action. Floppy option is no-muss, no-fuss, quick. Just enough choices to tailor camera for what you're doing without having to go to photography school to know how to run it.

Sony products are very good and not too pricey

I have no complaints about Sony products. They are long lasting and very inexpensive. I had a Sony digital camera that lasted about 15 years and it was used when I bought it. I will not purchase any other camera except Sony. I love the floppy disk for the convinence.

High Marks for the Sony Mavica MVC FD87
Review created: 12/05/08
by:

Yes, it's an oldie - been around quite a while and there are lots of newer (and more expensive!) Mavica models with even more bells and whistles. It ain't the "newest or the bestest" - but it sure is easy to use! it makes decent photos and it is absolutely PERFECT for use if you're selling on eBay!

UNFAIR TO SELLERS "Star" Rating System Stinks Camera OK
Review created: 12/11/07

Love the camera. You should fire the idiot's that dreamed up the UNFAIR TO SELLERS "Star" rating gimmick. A person should be able to know what problem their buyers have with them so that they can correct the problem. Tom Niebler "findersjeepers"

  Best Camera Made
Review created: 10/26/07
by:

I have this camera and us it all the time. It sthe best camera around. Although it outdated but I love it.

I have dropped this many, many times. Still takes great pictures and nothing has gone wrong with it. It also missing a few screws from sides. The floppy disks worsk great for small size pictures. Thats what I started out. Then upgraded to 1GB media stick and never had a problem with it.

Its so hard to get a new camera becuase I like this one. But it time to move on.

So if your thinking about get this its great to start out with. Grant its big, but the pictuer quality is great.

  SONY FD87
Review created: 08/02/07

I have had a Sony FD88 for years. I paid almost $900 for it new. My wife loves the camera but said it was to bulky for her to handle. The Sony FD87 is a lot easier for her to handle. She takes pictures of arts and crafts to e-mail her friends. This is a real user friendly camera. Only bad point that I can think of is that it is a large camera. You can't stick it in your pocket or hang it on your belt. I own two FD88's and she has her FD87 at present. Purchasing the cameras for under $50 on ebay is about as good as it gets. Camera should come with a good battery and charging unit.

My sister uses this kind of camera at her job and she brought it home one day to take pictures to put on her myspace to share with the family. It worked great. So I wanted to get on. I paid a good price for mine. I tried it once and it works pretty good. But I haven't really goten into it yet. I actually purchased it to take pictures that i would like to sell on Ebay. I had a great experience with the seller and that was wonderful after my first purchase on Ebay.

This is a great, durable camera.
We use it around the shop all the time. Because it uses 3.5" floppy discs, it is easy to get the pictures onto any PC in the office.
We have two!
