This Sony brand, MDR-V6 headset model has been time tested by professionals for a score of years. Even with all of the post-modern digital upgrades to various media playing sources, this headset is professional grade, it's so versatile.

One of the great benefits of buying the new but older model is that the cost is much lower than newer models; however, the quality of sound is exquisite. I use mine for both academic digital video sound monitoring while I am filming since the jack is standard size and fits right into my JVC digital camcorders.

But, inside my home, I can also plug this headset right into the jack of my television and have the equivalent of surround sound without anyone but me hearing it since the ear covers cover my entire ear and are very well cushioned for both comfort and blocking in the sound I want and blocking out the sound I don't want to hear.

By the way, even eBayers sell inexpensive extensions to fit universal size headset plugs so that an individual can walk a whole house while listening. You can't do that with cordless headsets that go out of range~

The best headphones under $70, hands down.

First, an important note:
These are essentially exactly the same as the Sony MDR 7506. Other than the sticker color on the side (v6 is red rather than blue), there is only one significant difference: The plug is NOT GOLD, but nickel.
This make these headphones one of the best values on the market as the MDR 7506 is a well respected headphone and the gold plug makes little if any difference at this level of headphone.
Rather than give a detailed review here, I would highly recommend you do a simple search of the forums at headfi.org, the online mecca of audiophelia. There you will find more reviews, opinions, and comparisons of both the v6 and 7506 than you could ever hope to read.
Pros: While specific opinions vary, the consensus is that these are an excellent entry level closed headphone comparable even to cans twice their price. They are commonly praised for their portability and durability. Comfort is very subjective. Audition them at Guitar Center or elsewhere if you can.
Cons: Also, while they are very popular among DJs and recreational listeners because of their heavy base response and aggressive, fun sound, they do receive a lot of criticism when applied to professional monitoring applications where they are accused of not being flat or natural enough. While this may actually be preferred for music enjoyment it may also disqualify them from serious recording/mixing duty among discerning artists.
Still, they are durable, time-tested classics and you will not find a better pair of closed headphones for any application under $70. You can buy them with confidence. If, however, you still have doubt, I cannot emphasize enough how useful visiting head-fi will be. Just don't let them talk you into anything more expensive! There are better headphones out there, but there is not a better value! Good luck!

Best Headphones For The Money.... STILL.
Review created: 09/30/09

This is my first review. I want to keep it short. These headphons are the best you can get for the money! Sony has been making them for over 20 years for a good reason. They hit the jackpot! Now they can make and sell them cheaper and not many competetors can touch that quality of sound for the price Sony can. The only way someone could understand is, to compare a much higher priced set of headphones against the V-6's, then you will probably still pick the Sonys. The sound, Comfort and weight is amazing! Now I understand why I always see DJ's and Professionals on TV wearing my headphones. I highly recomend the Sony MDR-V6!.......... I got mine on ebay...... PS. amazon.com has the best deal and waranty.

These are industry standard headphones, they work great! Very easy to carry around since they fold inwards. The deal comes with a carry case and a warranty, these are a must have for anyone making music or just wanting to enjoy it in high quality.

  Sony VR6 Headphones Best Affordable
Review created: 04/29/09

Sony VR6 headphones are a completely satisfactory replacement for my Sony MDR-7506s which were stolen. And at less than 1/2 the price a great buy. One of the best affordable closed headphones on the market. Flat response for audiofiles (which I'm not). I use them at work to filter out distracting noise, so light (8oz) and comfortable I can listen all day, at restful low volume music is totally clear. Much better than my noise-reducing earbuds.

  Sony ... Sells Quality.

When i was in my 20's i wanted to buy some very good headphones when the CD players came out . so i went to the store in HOLLYWOOD and spoke to a very UNPREFESSIONAL person about some headphones and he thought he would sell me the high dollar headphones little did he know that i was a SONY fan however i baught them for $40 dollars and I was definately captured by the great DYNAMIC sound of the headphones not only i can use them for my stereo, but i can use them for my amp, my portable CD player walkman cassette player. if ANY buyer are intrested in good headphones and don't mind paying big bucks, dont throw your money away the SONY DIGITAL MDRV6 STUDIO MONITOR HEADPHONES are the best. they are good for me. good bass action and is not too tinny (which means hi treble.) sounding.
