Sony Handycam DCR TRV280

I purchased this camcorder with the intention of converting our old Hi-8 tapes (from an analog camcorder) to the computer. However, after having received it in the mail, I attempted to play the tapes on it, and the play symbol would show up, but there was no picture or sound. I read the manual, and did some online research, only to find that this camera will NOT play back tapes that are recorded in the analog format. Just thought this information might be helpful to someone, it sure would have been helpful to me.(The camera itself seems very nice, though, so for anyone who is not intending to convert analog tapes to digital, this would probably make a great camera).

I love the FireWire link to my MAC. The iMovie program that came with my computer controls the playback functions of the TRV280 so I can produce HD DVD movies faster than ever. I used to import the entire tape's worth of video then cut what I didn't need. Now I just import the scenes I need. That saves a bunch of time and all that hard drive space!

With technology going so fast it's easy to get caught up in believing you need the latest thing, but Digital 8 still produces great pictures for almost all folks' needs. I bought this because my old Digital 8 went bust and for less than the cost of a repair (I had it repaired once and it went bust again) I got this refurbished newer model so I could transfer my recorded tapes to DVD. Works perfectly and is smaller, better than the old one, with more features. This particular one came in original packaging, all the little protective stickers covering the sensitive camera parts. The only reason I knew it wasn't "new" is it had a little sticker that said "Refurbished" on the side. It's new as far as I can see. I could have easily bought 4 for the price of a low-end consumer HDD camera. Hopefully I can still find the Hi8mm tapes for awhile - not that easy to find in France. Excellent value for home movies.

A very high-end digital Hi-8 video cam. It has a very excellent Night Shot Infrared System. This camera is excellent if you want to transfer all your video tapes to digital on your computer.

This Sony is a nice camera for shooting at night, or in low light situations. I use the camera for work (private investigations), and have been happy with the NightShot Plus feature on it. It lacks in stability control, though, forcing me to use a different camcorder for daytime shots.

I received the item quickly and it was in the condition that it was supposed to. I was very happy with my product.

We bought the camera for our 11 y/o daughter because it is highly rated by consumer reports and the re-furbished version is a good price. It is easy to use and is a camera she can grow into. She loves it.

I cannot say what I like or dislike about this product since it was bought as a gift. I bought this camera because it seemed simple to operate. As far as I know, it is fine. I would not have bought this camera if I had realized it was reconditioned. I did buy the extended warranty.

I just went to South Africa on a two week trip and used this camera for the first time. Very easy to use and I love the snapshot feature on it. A lot of great features that I still have not used yet. Very happy with my purchase.

WOW is all I have to say!!!! I just got this camera for Christmas and it is just the coolest thing ever... It has so many features I was really so pleased with this gift. Let me just share a few incase you are thinking about purchasing one of these babys. OK it has a already built in light and it is super bright, the ability to record in a completely pitch black room... YES you head=rd me right night vision... so cool...Also my favorite feature the usb link up to your computer allowing you to save your movies to a dvd or send in an email to your family. So I hope this helps any of you looking for a great camera. A+++++

Consumer Reports had this camcorder listed as a "Best Buy". So I went looking on Ebay to find one listed and bought the only one listed at that time. I have not been disappointed. The camera is everything it was reported to be. It has many great features such as controlling the movement of the camera when taking pictures, it is small with the controls easy to get to, it is easy to get it up and running with a special feature to do so. We enjoy hooking it up to the TV and watching our recordings. I can't think of a single negative about the camera at this time.

money order was send on May 10th 2006,he received it on May 19 2006,he said that he shipped it out on May 23 2006.As of this date,July 3th 2006 Iam still waiting for this item.I bought this because it was in my price range and it looked to be a nice camcorder.Be I lost out on the camcorder plus my money.I wish that ebay could do something for the buyers that get ripped off by the sellers,this is not fair,What can I do to get the cam corder or my money back.He will not answer any of my emails.

I bought my Handycam to make tapes of mytoddler son to send to my husband whos deployed with the US Army to Afghanistan....I love this camcorder, its easy to use and is light weight...Deff a A++++ of camcorders
